No one happy I didn't get a GTP? Would you get a 2002 Pontiac SuperCharged GTP loaded with everything over a Maxima?

My Previous Question

I played ball with another Nissan dealership, got them to give me a 2002 Maxima SE, no moonroof, (msrp $26,300) for $18,600 with my trade.

But my friend's brother bought a new 2002 Pontiac Super Charged GTP with fully loaded, leather, moonroof, high polished rims (the most expensive ones they have), bose stereo system. He was able to get it for under 22k with a $2500 trade because he knew the owner.

So my friend brings me in and they will treat me the same, so they say.
I am working on the same vehicle, rims, bose system, leather seating, northstar, 2002 Pontiac Supercharged GTP.
MSRP $28,115.
No trade: $25,700 (including fee to bring the vehicle down)
With trade-in: $21,700
Then $1000 rebate for a final price of $20,700

Are these cars wrong for a 21 yr old? Good deal?

Hell no! Maxima's are amazing, much better than a Pontiac Grand Piece. Seriously, the Pontiac doesn't even come in standard!

a '02 Maxima will be faster than the GTP, plus the interior will be a whole lot better.

The '02 Maximas AUTO are running 14.7s STOCK in the quarter mile!!! It has potential to hit low 14s if the car had traction and the drivers were more experienced with their new cars.

The Nissan Maxima's top engine was rated as one of the 10 best engines last year. Pontiac has never been even close to making the list.

hmm i drove about 3 or 4 hours in grand prix and i love the car. The dash is laid out sporty (yeah with plastic tho), and i like how the whole thing looks. MAxima is pretty damn ugly in my opinion

Buy American. :)

Even if it's assembled in Mexico or whatever, the Pontiac's still from an American company.

Having a moonroof is way cool, leather is very nice, and so are those Bose stereo systems. A lot of people here hate domestics for some reason. The financinag deal is probably better too. Pontiac :)

Wouldn't a supercharger make the Pontiac engine less reliable over all? Wouldn't the supercharged air also bring in dirt and whatnot into the engine? I don't know if I'd trust a supercharger in an American car.

By the way, don't bash me because I know nothing about superchargers.

My roommate has a 2000 GTP.

Stock, with only a K&N Drop in, he hit a 14.77 at the track.

Two weeks ago at the track, he nailed a 14.2 w/ intake, pulley, exhaust, and he took off the front left headlight. It does seem to be inconsistant on the street however, but he's going to replace the supercharger belt soon.

So don't spout off that the Maxima will always be quicker.

It interior is nice and the radio is acceptable. Its not as "plasticy" as everyone would have you believe. It's an extremely comfortable car and I've been impressed by it. I've only driven it a few times and it feels just its size - like a boat.

I'm sure the Maxima has a stiffer suspension setup. And playing with a 5spd has to be fun. I haven't driven one myself, but If I can I'll test one out soon.

This video is the only one I can find of my roommates GTP... this was 2 weeks ago at the track and you can see by his time that the car is inconsistant. Hopefully he'll fix it.

thought I heard the 2002 maximas are suppose to have soemthing like 240hp plus they probably weigh close to 800lbs if not more less than a grand prix(I'm assuming a gtp weighs as much as a gt which was like 4300lbs in 98). Correct me if I'm wrong. Driven a 98 gt and a 2001 Maxima and must say the Maxima is a hell of alot nice.

2002 Max is far superior in every single way.. Nissan quality, better looks, better re-sale, better reliability, it has more HP than a 3.8L Supercharged GM V6 (240 vs 255), better gas mileage.. IMHO this is hardly a comparison.. there is only 1 winner here, any way you look at it... and with a 6 speed the Max SE is a damn sports car ...

For whoever said the Max is ugly too, look at the first pic on this page..

I think that first pic makes the car look killer.. look at the interior too.. this car ROCKS

If i had enough money for this car, I would for sure without question buy one.. what a sweet car to be tweaked a bit too.. that 3.5 can be good for alot more power, this car would be hella fun to tune up...

A GTP with a smaller pulley and i/e would definately kill a stock Maxima..I would expect it to. They have tons of potential, all you need is a smaller pulley, and ecu-upgrade for increase in power.

But we are talking stock to stock. I have a video of '97 Maxima 5-spd with only intake and exhaust running a 14.255s in the 1/4 mi...although his car seems to be a factory freak because of its awsome time.

Again, my roommates 2000 GTP hit a 14.77 at the track with a K&N drop in. Thats it. Both cars have tons of potential. In the long run, I'd go with the Maxima myself :D

"Buying American" is UN-American. The american economy rewards those who offer the best product at the best price (this is part of capitalism). "Buying American" just for the sake of it rewards those who do not deserve it.

That said I will personally kick your ass if you buy that PONTIAC over a NISSAN MAXIMA. I mean WTF, you're not even serious are you? Not only will the Maxima spank the GTP without even warming up the engine but as yield said it has "Nissan quality, better looks, better re-sale, better reliability".

Correct me if I'm wrong but the GTP is not available in a standard is it? Even if it is it STILL SUCKS, but if it is only available in an auto well then god damn you for even asking!

--

I'm not really mad...but I will kick your ass if you pay $2k more for a crappier car.

You've never driven a GTP have you?
