i have no motivation to do anything except read books anymore.

I have 2 movies from netflix, 1 or 2 movies i borrowed from a friend, 5 GC, 5 wii, and 2 VC games for the Wii, my camera, several pc games that i barely played, and my guns. oh and work, but i don't think i've ever been motivated about work.

I can't seem to bring myself to do anything but read or browse/post on ATOT. If I do use any of the above mentioned things, its for a short period.

i haven't even touched my camera in weeks. i just don't seem to have any interest in anything.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can easily cure the problem with time spent posting on ATOT. LMK

I feel the same way kinda, I think it has something to do with being worn out from the hollidays.

Maybe you just need some "myself" time if you've been facing a lot of people... If you're this way two or six months down the road, you may have a problem...

i'm always depressed.

Go work out. Run your muscles for a good hour or so. You'll be suprised how you feel an hour or so afterwards.

if i have to work the next day, usually around 11

if i don't have to work, it varies. if i'm tired, around 10 or 11. if not, around 12 or 1.

Or maybe even the other way around. I read a lot of books and have gotten into moods like the OP said (generally after reading books with "serious" subjects). I find doing anything social, even if its as "lame" as being social in a game, helps.

pontifex - if you're asking for folks to help out, then tell us this:

Have you had a major problem with parents or loved ones lately...

Start going to be before 9, and exercise during the day.

i don't know if i'm asking for help or just venting. probably a little of both.

no problems with parents or loved ones. i've been really down about my job for a long time though. that is probably the biggest reason i guess. i dunno.

I've been experiencing this since about my junior year in college and the only thing I can motivate myself to do is psychologically study myself to figure out what's wrong. Already seen psychologists and they just pass me off as your typical depressed state, but I've NEVER believed that it's so simple. The meds that they gave me never worked and never did a thing nor did they show any sort of improvement (even a small one).

I've always been quiet and a bit self conscious and I had a lot of not-so-nice crap happen in High School that made my condition worse. Now, it got bad enough that I don't care to do anything but just talk to people online and such. I also feel like my work is suffering because I simply cannot care. The only work I've done that I've enjoyed was when I taught myself a language and as a "test" I wrote a scripting language in that language. I actually enjoyed doing that. Now I just feel bored with life.

One thing that's been throwing me off is that my dad seemed to suffer from the same problem as me before he died last year. He was never someone to pass of work to do nothing and if I ever did that, I got yelled at. But in the year before he died, he simply became aloof and had no desire to do anything. I looked at one of his high school yearbooks and the comments written in that to him were so mean and harsh... I'm curious if he ended up going through the same thing as me as I believe he was also one of the quiet, reserved kids.

You can't possibly care for someone else if you don't care for yourself :Q

quiet & reserved.

Loud & outspoken.

It really doesn't matter. There often aren't necessarily "reasons" for feeling depressed.

True, clinical depression usually becomes evident in the ways that OP mentioned....(and others here)

A good psychiatrist (can prescribe meds) and a good therapist can help A LOT!!!

As someone who has battled anxiety and depression for almost 10 years now, I can tell you it is VERY real and VERY humbling.

If you can still function, that is good, but definitely try & seek help!! It's not fun to live life that way.
