Dude...be glad you quit.

I don't know what prices are where you're at, but I just bought a carton of Reds and they've taken a HUGE jump...

I bought a carton a couple of weeks ago, (I smoke ~ 1/2 pack/day) and paid (before tax) $31.99.

Today...$39.99.
Apparently, a corporate price hike and small tax increase...and there's another large tax increase coming April 1...

Fucking pricks. Instead of levying taxes that EVERYONE can pay, they hit us with increased "sin taxes."

I guess it's easier to vote for a tax increase that won't affect YOUR pocket...

People always claim that hour #3, day #3, week #3, or month #3 are when they started smoking again. You can get through it. The cravings don't last forever.

I never started smoking, hooray money and being able to breathe! Plus not having to be a slave to something is a nice feeling

I can't remember when they started to.

believe it or not, i'll still get that kind of 'taste' in my mouth that i'd get craving a cig. and i havent smoked a cigarette since july 05, 2005.

I quit cold turkey. its just will power. no amount of prescription drugs will give you that.

Thanks doc!

Good for you, it's a nasty habit that has NO advantages what so ever, all it does is make your breath stink, your life shorter, your teeth yellow and your general wellbeing worse.

Good luck.

You DO realise that smokers are the biggest burdon on the healtcare system in EVERY nation and since the US spends more tax money per capita on their healtcare and 3X that on insurance there is an increased cost for everyone who is daft enough to smoke?

You would be paying over 100$ per carton if you were really to carry your own costs.

You thought wrong, obesity is often coupled with smoking though, those who smoke tend to do very little excerse. They simply don't care much abot their bodies and well being, if they did, they wouldn't smoke.

All that's fine, and I don't disagree for the most part. This has nothing to do with smokers picking up their share of the healthcare costs...we're just a "captive" group of taxpayers that the politicians can stick a tap into anytime they need more revenues.

Hell, I'd love to see them add $1.00 per bottle tax on beer, $20/quart tax on hard liquor, $20 bottle tax on wine...start taxing those people as well, since alcoholism also adds a huge increase to every nation's healthcare costs...as well as huge social costs. (increased divorces, jail time for DUI's, increased violence including spousal abuse, etc.)

BUT, taxing alcohol might actually impact wealthy people...and they have way more political clout.

I thought it costs the system way more for them to live to a ripe OLD age. imagine all of the medicare and SS costs for those people who live past 100. Its actually cheaper for them to err burn out early. ;)

Sam Kinnison style welfare reform?

I slipped up a bit today. I got stressed out this morning and bought a 2 pack. I got pissed at myself for slipping and tossed each smoke out of both packs out the window when I was driving. I also made up new swear words for each smoke as it went out the window. Shit is hard folks!

It is hard. Stay strong - when you want a smoke, think about WHY YOU ARE QUITTING. The hard cravings will pass, man - believe in it!

Well it would be cheaper if they didn't need ten years of 6-15 million a year treatment while being completely unproductive.

I'm going to ignore what he said and go spout some random numbers about some random shit because that will REALLY show him.

Fixed your typo there.

I'm not quite sure why, but she seems to think I'm a bit FUCKING HARD TO GET ALONG WITH when I quit smoking...

If my wife told me that, I would get a divorce. Seriously, if she really loves you, she could be understanding and deal with the week or two you are going to be a ass by standing by you and being supportive. If her peace is more important than your long term health, (And the family finances now that a pack of cigs cost more than a six pack of beer.) then I would question her undying love for you.

(I know you were probably kidding, but a little voice in my head keeps telling me you are serious.)

Slipping up and smoking is not necessary a failure if you pick yourself right back up and keep trying. Don't be too hard on yourself because that will lead to failure.

What kind of plan do you have? Have you made a list of triggers to avoid, yet? Have you found activities to take your mind off the cravings when that craving hits? (Taking a long stroll or walking the dog after a meal is a great way to take your mind off cigs.)

Quitting smoking requires a plan of action and preparation. Have you seen the family doctor yet and discussed your plan of action? Do you have your family and friends involved in the process? These are all important things to consider to be successful.

I quit for the last time 15 months ago after a 3 year long relapse after quitting for 9 months (My dad was dying of Lung cancer and I was the one taking him to all the doctor appointments, chemo, radiation, etc.) after a 7 year relapse after 8 years being smoke free. (Divorces are very hard on your nerves.) The difference this time is quitting was so much harder on me than the last two times I quit, it took me over 2 years of trying to finally quit and only after going on Chantix was I able to do so.

I know now if I ever go back to smoking, the only way I will ever stop again is the same way my dad did! (He smoked his last cig minutes before he died in his chair.) That is all the motivation I need to never start again is knowing this is my last chance to quit for good the hard way. (The easy way is when you take the celestial dirt nap.) In the future I will learn to deal with stressful times in my life instead of trying to mask them with chemicals even if that means I need therapy.

Keep up the good work, we are all wishing you success!

I can do iiiiiiiiiit!

Hey..thats Kool...you going to Newport tomorrow? I hear Winston-Salem is nice this time of year... nice soothing billows of creamy smoke...just blowing softly and calmly. I saw a turkish Camel the other day. The Marlboro man was trying to ride it. I saw Joe Benson and Mark Hedges talking to Virginia Slim. They were arguing about Pall Mall and what kind of shops were in it.
