Another incentive for you. I'll drive up to Michigan and kick your ass if you smoke again.

I quit about 2 years ago. Being free of nicotine feels great and it's totally worth the suffering you have to go through to kick the addiction. It's so nice not having to plan my whole life around cigarette breaks.

For the next month, you might want to avoid anything that reminds you of smoking. That includes TV shows where people smoke and even reading web pages about quitting smoking.

Without a smoke, yes.

I ate 2 Manwich's and some fries. I didn't remember those being so filling!

Now I need a siesta.

I was going to try to quit again 2 summers ago. My wife said that if I did, she was leaving for at least a month...

My budget won't stand for HER to get a dammed vacation...(and I don't want to have to cook for myself) :D so I still smoke. :p

I'm not quite sure why, but she seems to think I'm a bit FUCKING HARD TO GET ALONG WITH when I quit smoking...

Smoking was kind off fun for a while but then it got disgusting. I was never addicted, I think the longest I smoked for was maybe a couple of months. It was more fun to do when I was by myself, and a good excuse to stand around outside and people watch, which was a paltry replacement for hanging out with people.

Having a smoke with coffee was pretty nice. Having a smoke at a cafe or restaurant while writing in a notebook and listening to music on earphones was nice too.

Sorry, am I making this harder for you? I'm not trying to. Smoking, in the end was disgusting, and made me feel like crap. I never liked the taste and was forcing myself to do it when I did smoke. Before that 2 month stint, I would only smoke with friends if I was out drinking, but I quit doing that too. Last time I went out my friend went outside for a smoke break. When he came back into the bar and said whats up his breath reeked of smoke, it was really nasty. I'm glad I don't do that anymore.

So I'm not one of those holier than thou people who hates smokers and has never tried it. I gave it my best shot and found some aspects of it good, and others not so good. Now I will never smoke again. Unless it's an excuse to talk to a hot girl.

I appreciate the post. You are not making it harder for me to stay quit. I have learned that in order to truly overcome an addiction, you have to face it head on. Hiding from it or avoiding situations that trigger it does not cure an addiction. I already made it through morning coffee, yard work and lunch without a smoke. I am going for a 2 hour drive in a bit just to test my theory.

This is sort of a tangent but after doing beach cleanups smokers deserve to diaf for the mess they make. Cigarette butts are not part of nature, if you fucking smoke and throw your cigarette butts on the ground you deserve all the cancer you get. Anyway good luck with quitting, I only smoke a cig every once in a while cause I know I would get addicted, I stick with the sticky icky stuff the rest of the time.

edit* after thinking about it I think they should ban selling cigarettes with filters on them. Sort of like how places are banning styrofoam. If you wanna kill yourself go ahead, but at least that would save the rest of us from having to deal with your butts. Plus it would make it a whole lot less pleasant to be a smoker, unless you were really in love with your tobacco.

Congrats!
Are you using any medication or nicotine replacement? If the withdrawl gets really bad, it might be worth looking in to- their success rates are all at least 2x compared to quitting cold turkey, and can really take the edge off of the physical withdrawls....sure, you'll still want the cig in the morning, after meals, under stress etc- but at least you won't have to worry about the physical shit on top of all of the habits.

I have lozenges just in case.

There is a company here in town that packages most of the nicotine gum/lozenges sold. They have a store where I can get either for $4 a box.

Lol, all of my friends who still smoke have trained themselves to reflexively pick up and pocket their butts for later disposal when in the trash-can-less parts of nature.

They'll still die faster than us, on average, but at least they won't go straight to hell. ;)

I just wish they'd figure out how to use a biodegratable filter. That way, every time you see a but flying out of a window on the highway, you can shout "COMPOST!"

Alcohol yesterday, tobacco today.

I applaud your desires and determination.

Just don't become one of whiney anti-(insert your own vice here) "dick-with-ears", that knows better than every-else, how we should all live our lives.

If I'm going to do something, I do it. There's no need to announce it to the world unless I need to ask for help.

I'm hoping that I can quit....right after I've smoked the last ten cartons I've purchased to beat the new tax!

Good Luck NSFW!

Just thought I'd add....

I've always smoked non-filter. I think the filter materials put little holes in your lungs that promote your chances of cancer.
