Did I miss something? Both MTV and MTV2 are missing from my DirecTV lineup. Anyone experiencing the same thing?

Could be Viacom contract negotiations. They did that with DishNetwork too. They ran scrolling ads saying to call Dish Network if you wanted to keep your viacom owned channels. They wanted to charge more per channel and Dish wouldn't have anything to do with it. The channels were gone for like 18 hours max, and Dish finally caved (and passed the increase onto customers)

DirecTV took advantage of the situation by running ads saying they still had Viacom channels and Dish owners should switch.

Most likely a problem on your end though.

I'll miss Jackass and Wild Boyz if that's the case. I just love watching people hurt themselves willingly. Other than that, I can live without it :)

MTV still has some entertaining shows. It's the stigma that goes with a trendy network like that which keeps the haters hating. It's like stereotyping an entire network, not the particular shows that are on it.

Crap.

If you call yourself "Music Television" you should have Music.

MTV USED to play music videos all day. Then in the late 80s they tried a game show. It was all down hill from there. Now you'd be very lucky to ever see a music video on "Music Television."

Just unplug your receiver for 30 seconds and plug it back in... that fixed it when that happened to me. It's something that happened on their end, but that fixes it.

Have you seen the shows ? It's still got music/movie industry entertainment. Related celebs and the things they partake in. Not particularly music videos, but it's not just Real World or Road Rules like some people believe it is either. I happened to enjoy Making the Band 3 with the hoochies gettin' their groove on. Some good dancers and some good entertainment.

I'm not all that young myself, I do remember music videos on MTV in the mid-90s. Anyway, if your point is just that, a simple rename of the channel would suffice ? They have MTV2 for what you're thinking.

no, once you get past the age of, hell, I don't know, 25, the shows on MTV just don't appeal to you anymore. age depends on when you actually grow up

Not that it's a BIG loss or anything...

MTV should be the videos, MTV2 should be the shows. Maybe call it MIV (Music Industry Vision) or something.

That's fair, but at 27, I still find at least 3 or 4 of MTV shows entertaining. And I find myself more mature than the majority of this board. I just don't think it's fair to label an entire channel teh suck just because it doesn't appeal to you. It's one thing to say you don't watch it, but it's another to say it sucks as if no one should watch it.

If I could work for MTV, I would.

I'm not going to call the entire channel "teh suck", but as someone who sees children and teenagers day after day, I will state that it has had a decidedly negative influence on many of them. Of course, the influence isn't limited to just MTV, but a relatively larger portion of the music entertainment business. Personally, I used to love MTV in the mid 80's, but I think most (note: I didn't say all) of their shows are nothing but crap.
