Buying out their competition's ability to make games doesn't exactly demonstrate their ability to make good games...

Sure it does, because they now own these companies, and they produce good games. Therefore, EA is making good games. It's called capitalism.
EA didn't buy out their competitors, they instead purchased exclusive rights to the NFL, NCAA, NASCAR, and AFL. This is a dagger in the heart to EA's competitors (in those same sports), because they can no longer use those franchises for several years, if ever again.Originally posted by: ThePresence

I'm not sure of the specifics, but you can't really blame EA on this one. From what I know, the NFL was shopping their license for exclusivity. Did you expect EA to sit back and let Sega have it so as not to piss off all of the ESPN2K fans?Originally posted by: Slick5150

No, they don't own these companies. They bought an exclusive right to make NFL games from the NFL, meaning Sega was no longer allowed to make NFL 2k series, Midway couldn't make Blitz (though they're spinning that franchise off in a different way), etc...
They weren't making themselves better, they were eliminating the competition by reducing consumer choice. That doesn't deserve praise in my book

Thank you for not leaving out the AFL. That makes this Arena Football fan's morning that much better... man, I can't wait for that game.Originally posted by: Digobick
