Blizzard is just turning their backs on the fans. They no longer even minutely care about making the people who made them successful happy. It's about money only now.

It's always been about making money.

I doubt that, they were a pretty small group to start out so I'm pretty sure they got into the business because they wanted to create games that they had a vision for. This is pretty lame considering they would let you spawn multiplayer copies for free in the first starcraft.

The first SC came out 10 years ago, back when most who had internet access still had dial-up. The gaming landscape has changed as well as internet access speeds.

Funny... if it's such a NON-ISSUE like you said, then why would people be making any sort of deal out of it?

Starcraft + LAN is like Peanut Butter + Jelly.

because AT is full of people that complain about stupid shit

i cant remember EVER going to a lan or group event in someones basement that did not have an outside net connection, you can play it through Bnet there really is no issue

pretty much 1 game per faction = 3x more content

Heh, you obviously have no idea how it's going to work. 1 game per faction = take the original game, chop it into 3 pieces and sell it. Same amount of content in total, 1/3 less content each "episode" for 3x the price.

I have never played the original Starcraft in any other fashion other than lan, with a couple of pizzas, a few good friends and a lot of fun. Playing it over battle.net is just the same as calling everyone here your friends and AT being your social life.

If it was chopping up the original game in such a fashion, you'd have 10 missions.

SC 1 - 30 missions total

SC2 = 30 missions per race
30x3=90

its 3 times bigger then SC1 on the single player side

Have they actually confirmed this? I wouldn't be as annoyed if they did. Until they have confirmed it, it is MUCH more likely that they have the content of one regular size game just split up into three 1/3rd parts much like EA does.

They've said that each race will have 26-30 missions.

Edit:
http://www.starcraft2.com/faq.xml
How long is each of the campaigns?
--StarCraft II's terran campaign will consist of approximately 26 to 30 missions, and each expansion set will include a similar number of missions. This means that the complete StarCraft II Trilogy will include as many as 90 single-player missions. This allows us to create a truly epic story experience with a great variety of unique missions and gameplay types.

The trouble with the word mission is it is useless to tell how long the game will be. It is like saying a game has 20 levels so that means 20 hours of play.

Your right that could happen but I don?t think it will, with possibly 3X as many missions it?ll be longer then each races campaign in SC1, how much longer no one knows. But more IMO is better as I could not care less about multiplayer, and yes I know I?m alone on that.

Heh... no, if that was true then the original starcraft II as 1 game would have had 90 missions. You know any RTS games with 90 missions??? Not even warcraft III had that many. The original starcraft had 30 missions, starcraft II and the two other standalone expansions will also have 30 each, so we get 3x the content. They were never going to release a 90 mission game dont be ridiculous. Thats not even factoring in the quality and polish blizz puts into its single player campaigns!

Also if you havent played starcraft on battle.net then you havent really played starcraft at all...

Its reasonable to assume blizz will put the same polish on starcraft II that they did with warcraft III and TFT which had awesome single player campaigns. Itll be good, they wont just slap together a ton of samey boring missions.

Nice, but I doubt a petition will phase blizzvision. Any petition. They'd just come out and justify their move somehow and say something like "Trust us, we have your best interest in mind."

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to play some Blackthorn followed by my old demo of Warcraft.

I really hope they don't try to add neutered lan functions later as an afterthought and try to monetize it.

Blizzard isn't worth drama; they are about as uninspired as major PC developers get. This news is not surprising with their sacrifice of all things non-Battle.Net starting with Diablo II.

Would it be so awful if you had to play it with strangers?

If I haven't played with a legion of kids whose vocabulary consists of "lol" "omg" "pwnd!" "zomg" etc, I haven't played StarCraft? Interesting...
Trying to participate in some kind of online community these days is like getting a fork mashed into your frontal lobe.

That said, I'm not overly concerned about the LAN thing, seeing as me and my friends mostly play at my place, and I have a good connection(100/100 for $15/month, eat that!), but I can certainly see how it would suck for people still on various crappy DSL connections and such.
Ad for the 3x30 split, as long as they deliver quality all the way, I'm fine with that. More than fine in fact, if it's all of the same quality as StarCraft was, they can release it in 30x30 and I'd be all the happier.
