No input connecting monitor to gpu

Hey.. Just finished building my computer. I have a sapphire 7870 XT graphics card, with only a PCI-E connected to my GPU and PSU. When I power on my system, the graphics card turns on, fans spinning etc. It says "No signal" when I connect the DVI cable from my monitor to my GPU. (No HDMI) but when I connect the DVI cable to my motherboard, it works and I can access my bios. Am I missing anything? Hope to hear some quick replies because I would like to get my PC ready to go. Thanks

My power supply is SeaSonic G 550W modular psu.

EDIT: I asked someone over the phone what the problem might be and he said it could be anything, ram, bent pins on mobo, PSU, but I know it's not because the integrated graphics work. =/

Do I need to go out and buy some kind of adaptor? My monitor is Acer G215HV
 
Welcome to the forum 🙂

You need to go into bios and look for the graphics section. Most of the time it's under advanced you want to look for the setting that allows you to change it to PEG then it should work.

If you can't find the setting just let us know which motherboard you have and we'll help further.

Hey... So I screwed up horribly. I disabled onboard graphics from the bios hoping that would set default to my gpu, restarted my pc, now I can't get into the BIOS while monitor is in motherboard OR GPU .-.

When I try and boot up my pc, I get a long beep, followed right by 2 little beeps.

GPU is in tightly, connected with a PCI-E to the PSU... ugh =/
 
You need to reset the cmos. There should be a jumber on the motherboard.

I'll see if I can find some images of your bios to find the correct setting for you.
 
I have my DVI cable plugged into my motherboard, and it says no input on screen, then the power LED turns orange and the screen goes black.. =/

I'm stuck with no way to get back into the bios and reverse the setting.......
 
Look down below the sata ports. Should say CLR CMOS by it.

The setting to change should be the Init Display First(not one selected in image)....Should be set to PEG

Alright nvm... With my motherboard I tap the pins with a screwdriver like I did earlier with a test boot on my pc.. Lemme do that real quick

Set it to PEG, plugged the DVI cable into my GPU, staring at a black screen with the power button being orange. Plugged it back into mobo, I get picture.

Broken GPU? The fans are spinning on it so it's not dead..

I'm a first timer building a pc as you can tell 😛
 
Assuming what you said in post #1 is correct (power plugged into the video card, same cable used on motherboard connector and video card) there very-well could be a problem with the video card.

Does your power supply support SLI? If so, try the other video card power connector.

The beeps seem to be a tell-tale sign there is a video card problem. Does the video card fan spin when you turn on the computer?

Are all the mounting screws on the motherboard inserted and tight? (shouldn't cause this issue, but it never hurts to check.)

You also might want to cycle through the monitor's input options to make sure it is going through the right connection; but again, if you are getting odd beeps at post, this is a tell-tale sign there is a problem.

Thanks for the reply. My PSU does support SLI/Crossfire, the beep is now 1 short beep, instead of 1 long beep followed by 2 short ones. Doesn't that mean it's normal? Yes, the video card fan spins when I turn on the computer. The mobo mounting screws are fine.

What other video card power connector are you talking about?

Since you power supply supports SLI, there should be another PCI-E power plug that looks exactly like the one you have connected to it now. Try to swap those.

And if you haven't already, make sure the 4-pin power connection by the CPU is plugged in too.

Just swapped them, still getting the same thing. Btw, when my DVI cable is plugged into the motherboard DVI port and I select PEG in the bios and save and exit, I then connect the DVI cable from mobo to GPU without turning off the computer first, and it doesn't work, it seems whenever I plug it back into the motherboard and go in the BIOS, the Init Display first sets itself back to Auto from PEG... :S

I know on Auto the video connection worked fine on my board, so I am still suspecting the video card.

Have you installed an OS yet? If not, I would go ahead and do that (with the cord plugged into the mobo of course) and see if the card is even detected.

I haven't installed the OS yet. Don't have an optical drive, I followed this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Soo4r-1D9EA&list=FLORPi9etUrcXJEb8PIWYDnw&index=1 but when I connect my 8GB usb drive it says error loading operating system..
