Why?

1. The false sense that my vote is going to change something.
2. Legitimizing the two party system.

Neither do me or you any good.

Will you vote?

Honestly, none of the candidates really match my viewpoints. Even the Libertarian candidate has some major things I don't agree with. I may sit this one out. If I'm not convinced that a candidate will do what I want, I'd rather not give my input on who should win.

I wasn't going to vote, but after the decision on the mandate I don't want even more liberal interpretations of the Constitution. We might as well throw the thing away if it gets much worse. Consequently I'm going to vote for the person least likely to put in the worst possible choices, and that would be Romney. Note I'm only doing so because of SCOTUS nominations. We have no real choices as things are set up and I don't want to be a party stooge. They own us and I know it. I'm voting for Supreme Court justice nominations.

I am voting on one issue. That issue is the economy.

I will be voting for Romney.

Imagine what would happen if all the dems believed as you do and none of them voted. We would have a one party system.

Not voting is stupid, and (IMO) you lose your ability to complain about the outcome when you refuse to take part in the process.

And by voting you (IMO) reinforce the two reasons why I won't vote.

But who do you vote for when the choice is between the Crazy Party and the Hate Men Party?

I have local issues that are critical.

One does not have to vote for a party or person from one of the two major parties;
the fringe/third party, wackos, etc are also there.

by ignoring the vote; you are sanctioning the status quo that you are complaining about.

Voting just to vote is bad. When you don't like either major candidate (who are the only ones with a real chance of winning), voting because you "should" is as bad as completely uninformed people voting based on a candidates race or religion. Leave the decision to the people who actually prefer one candidate to another.

You vote for the one less likely to screw you over. If you do not, then you are actually helping the other one win.

By participating you are doing the same. No?

Then do not cry and moan about the results...doing so simply shows you are an idiot.

I won't cry I promise. I might moan though. That happens after every election lol

Hardly makes me an idiot. I would say a realist. But you are free to label me what you wish.

And if you believe that both are equally likely to screw you over - that all politicians today will avoid the actual issues to focus on gotcha politics or personality politics, while letting the economy tank because it's terrible to either cut spending or raise taxes, both of which need to be done?

I don't see how you can call yourself a US citizen if you refuse to participate. If you honestly cannot find any candidate you can tolerate (and write them in) then I suggest moving to North Korea where the decision is made for you. Too many people have shed their blood or given their lives to enable what you so gleefully through away in your false sense of superiority.

This is where the false notions are implied. You think if you vote for one party or the other you will be less screwed. Have you been around for the past two Presidents?

1. The false sense that my vote is going to change something.

There are enough people who don't vote, that they'd win every election in this country.

2. Legitimizing the two party system.

Not voting IS legitimizing the two party system. The only opposition is to vote third party.

Then you vote for a third party. There are many dozens of them.
