6970 with the beta rage drivers and I'm getting texture stream issues and artifacts all over the place. Bad guys flicker in and out as they charge you (unless this is a feature).

Game looks great stand still but as soon as you move around blurry textures popping in and different color artifacts.

Your welcome for beta testing for you :) Somebody has to be first onto the beach.

something is wrong. Mine does that too and there is no way it needs to re-stream those textures.

yeah if this garbage does not get fixed then id deserves to be buried. can someone please tell me why this awful streaming did not happen in the videos that id released???

The textures blur really badly when the camera looks around even in the video. Very strange? Looks like what you see when there's issues with LOD changes happening too close to the camera, just exaggerated real bad.

I think it makes a certain amount of sense from the end-user perspective. The average gamer probably doesn't have enough knowledge to know what settings are going to be best for their hardware. They will either just leave everything at default or crank it up to "Ultra" or w/e then get mad that it runs like crap.

But there should definitively be some sort of advanced override.

This is exactly the reason I preordered the PC version ($5 deposit) and not a console version. I could play the console at 1080P @ 60Hz on my HDTV but instead prefer the PC @ 1600x1200 @ 85Hz and the ability to adjust settings.

I hope iD hasn't abandoned their PC heritage entirely with this release.

It seems that a lot of the problems with streaming and what not are occurring on AMD graphics cards..

Perhaps the transcoding setting mitigates the texture streaming issue a bit, but since it apparently uses CUDA, it's Nvidia hardware only.

My hard copy won't arrive till later this day, and I'll test it thoroughly. It's sad to see that ID's new baby is having so many issues already though, as ID has a strong history of refinement before release

plenty of Nvidia users having the same issues. one guy said it helped to have the 285.38 beta drivers that were for BF 3.

I’m sure there’ll be a console where you can alter graphics options. Shame about that faulty texture streaming though, hopefully it’s just a glitch that can be fixed easily.

There is an issue with the game detecting correctly the available amount of video memory. In many cases it is detecting available memory as 0, this may be causing the streaming issues.

That's nice. Leave it to the robots to dynamically change the graphic settings. It's the new future. Oh it's broken now... 0mb of video ram.

I have no doubt we'll be able to get around that. Id isn't doing to do that to us.

Not surprisingly ID's Rage has also become another bad console port. BF3 has so many poor elements from the consoles as well, its not a good trend for the gaming industry to make such poor quality products. Thanks for showing these videos as I was considering getting Rage, this puts an end to that silly idea.

In theory dynamically adjusting graphics should provide better graphics fidelity and still allow decent performance when things get busy. But many game that have tried it had level of detail popping problems making the cure worse than the problem. I'd really like it to work, but it doesn't.

I don't however cling to the idea that every game needs a menu in it with all of the graphics options, it is a common enough feature across games that it would be nice if one of the companies built a settings selector that they can all use. Then games companies would not have to build unnecessary menus in every game and maybe default settings could start to propagate across all the games you own by default.

And there are people out there who say PC gamers are a bunch of whiners. This is exactly why that happens and i would say they are justified for whining.

I think that's exactly what it is. It's probably sticking all of the textures into the system memory, then constantly streaming them across PCIe to the GPU.

I also notice it's detecting the CPU as 3 MHz. That probably won't be an issue but it's still incorrect detection nevertheless.

This is pretty much along the lines of what I was going to post. I like manually adjustable options. I may be comfortable with a game that runs at 30FPS, the next person may want 60FPS+ at all times. If I'm ok with 30FPS, then I can add a little more detail/AA/etc. Not everyone is the same when it comes to what level of detail and frame rate is acceptable. I would not want any sort of auto configuration because of my personal tastes in what I want a game to look and run like.
