While I was excited to learn that NVIDIA had been working on a way to get AA working with StarCraft II even if the developer didn't take the time to implement one, I was disappointed to basically see no response from AMD and its driver team when I asked about the possibility of seeing it for users of ATI cards as well.

I did find more information on this here....
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=58068

Blizzard is using Deferred Rendering DX9 engine.

Also it seems ATI is now aware of the situation as there was a twitter link in that thread.

I split this from this thread..

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2092585

And AMD's lack of AA in Starcraft is highly off topic. Shoulda been in new thread.

Off topic, flaming, trolling; pick one.

Am I reading your post correctly? Blizzard didn't include an ingame AA option?

Wow...

I said this in the other thread. To not devote resources to get this done is simply retarded on AMD's part.

If the developer doesn't bother with in-game AA settings, is it really ATI's fault?

Blizzard has always been about making their game work (and look damn good) on every computer, not make it look amazing for a few.

I am more excited what Mafia II will bring for PhysX than AA in SC2. If you know anything about the game, then SC1 only supported 1 fixed resolution of 640x480 with no AA, yet sold millions of copies. So for any SC fan, the AA is probably not a deal breaker! ATI will likely incorporate AA through their control panel shortly.

It is beyond dumb. WTF is AMD thinking? This game is going to sell millions of copies over many years. To not have everything work at launch is simply not acceptable.

pretty sure that this feature should rest on the shoulders of the game devs not a gpu company.

I must be the only person on the planet that thinks AA makes the image look fuzzy and out of focus. The fact that he needed to zoom in like 300% for me to even see the effect confuses me even more.

Anyway on topic: Nvidia is just overriding the settings for the game. So this is a 'missing' feature from Blizzard.

Also am I missing something? My 5770 has: "override application settings" and "application profiles" in the control panel. One of the options is override AA.

That makes no difference to a gamer. And I haven't heard AMD crying foul on this one like it did on Batman. AMD and NV both have developer relationships, iirc. What do you think their job is?

Bottom line is that if someone wants to play SC2 with AA, NV cards are the only solution for now. I will see what happens tomorrow (official release) but this game isn't 'just another console-port' type of thing. Blizzard is the few left PC-only developer (correction: PC & Mac) if AMD wans to duck away from a game of this magnitude, it might as well duck away from PC GPU market.

You made it sounded like SC2 don't run with ATI cards.

Honestly AA isn't as big of a deal in a RTS. It would be nice, but it doesn't affect gameplay as much as lack of AA in a FPS.

Why is it that more and more games are coming out without AA options built in?

When AMD has known about this issue for months if not longer. They need to step up and fix the situation like their competitor is doing.

I agree with posters above me that your analogy is so far off.

I am sure ATI will fix it eventually, and I doubt it will be a big issue. that doesnt take away from the fact that ATI isnt missing a feature, Blizzard left it out, and only NV so far has said they have a fix for it, and the game doesnt launch for another few hours anyways.

and it does make a difference, since when does it not matter who didnt do what?

blizzard has taken what, 12 years to release a sequel, and couldnt bother to add in graphical features prominent in most games?

maybe it wont really matter? just seems very apple like of them, 'you dont need AA for our games' is alot like 'we didnt make the iphone so you can look at porn'

Regardless of the reasoning Blizzard has for not doing this (seems dumb to me), ATI should have been more on their game. This is the biggest PC game release of the year and the beta has been out for how long?

You guys realize this is a DX9 thing not a nvidia ati thing.

yes this.

why is game being released in DX9, DX11 has been out for how long? not even DX10?

you can't be talking down ATI for laziness or missing the parade with any credibility if you are not willing to dump a big shovel of it in Blizards lap.
