I live in NJ and the only bad areas are the parts which are suburbs of cities in other states. First of all North Jersey is like one big industrial park bordering New York. I hate New York, and I hate North Jersey.

The "Jersey" accent that's so famous isn't even a NJ accent. It's a NY accent. Here in Southern NJ we think the people in North Jersey sound weird.

If you want to experience the REAL NJ, not the NY landfill, you might as well chop off the Eastern part of the state above Princeton.

People complain about not being able to pump your own gas, but it's some of the cheapest gas in the nation. Cross the bridge into PA to pump your own... and pay another 20 cents a gallon for having to do it yourself.

Yes, the politicians are corrupt here. The insurance companies seem to own the state government.

If you want to see a nice area, visit the Delaware water gap or the pine barrens.

Another strange thing that I found out is that there are cacti in NJ. I never thought a cactus would grow in the wild here, but in the pine barrens up near sandy hook I saw a bunch of them. The soil is just right for it, it's all sand.

if God were gonna give this country an enema... he would do it in Northern NJ.

the b/f's family just bought 16 acres of commerical property right off route 80...Blakeslee, PA. That seems to be pretty ok there... I would not mind going about 30 miles deeper in PA and furter away from NJ and getting some private property.

He buys a lot of heavy machinery and equip... some of it in south jersey. It is a whole different place as far as the ppl and surrounding... it is a total waste dump here. The ppl and scenery are much better in Southern Jersey, I will admit. but the taxes, the anti guns and corrput politicians are enough to ruin the whole state.

Edit: the reason you cannot pump your own gas in NJ is because of insurance. The gas companies dont want to pay the extorionate insurance prices for ppl to do it themselves.

You Know You're From New Jersey When...

You've been seriously injured at Action Park.

You know that the only people who call it "Joisey" are from New York (usually The Bronx) or Texas.

You don't think of citrus when people mention "The Oranges."

You know that it's called "Great Adventure," not "Six Flags."

You've ordered a hard roll with butter for breakfast.

You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven.

You've eaten at a diner, when you were stoned or drunk, at 3 am.

Whenever you park, there's a Camaro within three spots of you.

You remember that the "Two Guys" were from Harrison.

You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.

At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen, and you know what town Jon Bon Jovi is from.

You know what a "jug handle" is.

You know that a WaWa is a convenience store.

You know that the state isn't all farmland.

You know that there are no "beaches" in new Jersey - there's "The Shore," and you know that the road to the shore is "The Parkway" not "The Garden State Highway."

You know that "Piney" isn't referring to a tree.

Even your school cafeteria made good Italian subs, and, you call it a "sub" not a "submarine sandwich" or worse yet, a "hoagy" or a "hero."

You remember the song from the Palisades Park commercials.

You know how to properly negotiate a Circle.

You knew that the last question had to do with driving.

You know that "Acme" is an actual store, not just a Warner Bros creation.

You know that this is the only "New..." state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try ...Mexico, ...York, ...Hampshire (doesn't work, does it?).

You know how to translate this conversation: "Jeet yet?" "No, Jew?"

You only go to New York City for day trips, and you only call it "The City."

You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich.

You consider a corned beef sandwich with lettuce and mayo a sacrilege.

In the 80's you wore your hair REALLY high.

You don't think "What exit" (do you live near?) is very funny.

You know that the real first "strip shopping center" in the country is Route 22.

You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton - that's for out-of-staters.

The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or local bar.

You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.

You can see the Manhattan skyline from some part of your town.

You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of Willowbrook Mall.

You've eaten a Boardwalk cheesesteak with vinegar fries.

You have a favorite Atlantic City casino.

You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.

You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.

Every year you have at least one kid in your class named Tony.

You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos opening credits.

You know that people from North Jersey go to Seaside Heights, and people from Central Jersey go to Belmar and people from South Jersey go to Wildwood.

You weren't raised in New Jersey -- you were raised in either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey.

You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the state.

You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamberger's and Orbach's.

You also remember Palisades Amusement Park.

You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February.

You've never pumped your own gas.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from New Jersey.

Correct. East coast people are inherently different from west coasters. I called it elitism, but if I wanted to be politically correct I'd still say they're two ENTIRELY different cultures and people. I lived on the east coast for two years and was forced to flee before I went on a killing spree. Oil and water, east and west DO NOT MIX...personality wise that is. Too rushed, too self-important, too socially involved, too A-type. Not for me. Fine for people like that I'm sure...but not me.

I spent most of my NJ time in Atlantic City, Marlton, Cherry Hill, & Mt Holly. Unfortunately it really didn't matter where I was, it was still east coast people, and CRAPPY weather.

That, and I don't like lots of people, hot weather, humidity, A-type personalities, people in a hurry, east coast elitism, the accents, social climbers, pollution, right-wing conservative republicans, hardcore capitalists, etc.

So yeah, not in my favorite list of places.

you forgot sh!tty agressive but not capable drivers, illegal immigrants, the most corrupt politicians in the country, the pot hole capitol, ppl too stupid to pump their own gas...way high taxes, and a DMV that is worse than the mafia.

but i disagree about the right wingers... nj is filled with sheeple who vote dem without thinking of why... not that there is anything wrong with voting dem... but at least believe in what you are voting, ya know... ppl here are clueless, but it is a very dem voting state.

this is one of the richest states in the union, but have more slums than anyplace I have ever lived. they are forcing expansion of parts of the state that cannot accomodate it, but think it will bring in more $$$.

Atlantic City is full of beggers, weirdo and losers. The jersey shore is just as bad during the summer and I feel bad for the ppl who have to live there all year long and deal with that.

I hate it here. but the b/f makes a lot of money.

Both you clowns hate the state in part because of its residents politics, yet you give COMPLETELY OPPOSITE political affiliations that you can't stand! Nothing like being biased based on assumptions, huh?:disgust:
BTW, yes I do live in NJ.
(and I'm really an excellent driver...)

The weather is nice most of the time. We have a proper summer and winter. And if you think the people in Marlton or Cherry Hill are bad I hope you don't go to NYC or North Jersey. I'm FROM New Jersey and even I think those people are nasty!

The best thing about NJ was the billboard of Joe Camel that they had right off the Goethals bridge. That always amused me. When they took it down, the state of NJ lost all purpose in my mind...

Actually, NJ is a pretty nice state. If I were to live in the NYC area again, I might in Northern NJ somewhere, because the cost of living is better, and it's easier to get in and out of Manhattan than it is from Long Island. Despite the jokes, NJ has quietly built itself to be the wealthiest state in the country (along with CT). The state has pretty good weather and topography (varying amounts of "hilly", a large ocean front, etc.)

Yeah, I noticed that too.

*shrug* Like any area of the country, I'm sure there are both...it just happens that the only people I met while I was there (well, mostly anyway) were far right-wingers.

No, the weather is not nice at all. 90-100+, plus humidity...BLECH. Ok, I'm sure winter is very nice when it gets cooler...but that can't make up for the RIDICULOUS summers.

The day I got married there (to a NJ girl unfortunately) it was 102 and over 90% humidity. On what planet is that nice in any way, shape or form???!!! My family told me if I ever made them come to such a thrice-be-damned hell hole in the middle of summer again they'd disown me.
