But no amount of happiness on your part will keep me from laughing publicly and out loud when someone proclaims NJ the best state. Nor a LOT of other people from the look of the responses here. Nothing like a little perspective to broaden ones mind.

BTW, as usual I just have to comment on how desperately sad it is to see so many people treat property as an investment instead of a home. 8-( Makes me weep for the condition and future of this nation.

Your home is where you live, where your children can grow up, where memories are made and thrive. Home is security, stability, familiarity. Home is where you can always return to. Home is where you're understood and understand others. I don't think there is anything wrong with jersey except people's perception of it. I live in Marlton, go to school right outside Morristown, work in Princeton over the summer, have a girlfriend in Jersey City, and I have friends from Eatontown to Sparta back down to Glassboro, and of course I go down to Wildwood for vacation. I think I've covered most of the state. Yeah some parts are a little ghetto, but the people here always know how to have a good time, and for the most part are some of the friendliest people I know, unless you're a jackass. There are also some absolutely beautiful areas in both parts of the state. Cherry Hill and Marlton have some gorgeous developments, and in North Jersey places like Chatham, Madison, Morristown, and around Warrenville, everything that's a reasonable distance from the city have some awesome houses and great communities. One of my friends just got a great three bedroom in Hoboken for 1/3 of what it would have cost to get it in NYC.

In my small amount of traveling across the US, I have enjoyed going to almost every other state except California. I can't stand California for more than a week, I hate having to visit my family there because the people are absolutely terrible. Sure the weather is nice, but if I wanted nice weather I'd move to Arizona.

And not pumping your own gas is meant to create jobs. Gas is still cheaper in NJ than NY and PA even if you can't pump it yourself.
Also the Jersey accent isn't from Jersey, its from NY, and I still don't get why people don't understand that. The only thing I say differently is water, that's a South Jersey thing.

Have you noticed a general (there are always exceptions) difference in personality/outlook between west coast people and east coast people? For good or bad, I'm just curious. Everyone I've known that's moved west from east says it's there (of course, they usually say it's a change for the worse), and everyone I've known that's moved east from west says the same thing (including that it's for the worse). The only theory I can come up with is a basic cultural discrepancy that influences personalities.

BTW, I know there are nice areas in NJ. Marlton is where my ex was from. A lot of hatred of that state stems from my relationship with her and her friends and family. There's nice areas and people in every state...well, maybe not Texas.

The "Jersey" accent that's so famous isn't even a NJ accent. It's a NY accent. Here in Southern NJ we think the people in North Jersey sound weird.

If you want to experience the REAL NJ, not the NY landfill, you might as well chop off the Eastern part of the state above Princeton.

People complain about not being able to pump your own gas, but it's some of the cheapest gas in the nation. Cross the bridge into PA to pump your own... and pay another 20 cents a gallon for having to do it yourself.

Yes, the politicians are corrupt here. The insurance companies seem to own the state government.

If you want to see a nice area, visit the Delaware water gap or the pine barrens.

NJ has some of the best school in the US. The property taxes are sky high, but think of it as a federal tax deduction for a private school quality education.
