Sony & MS don't care about just capturing the hardcore gamers, hence their reasonings in turning their systems into media centers, etc. Nintendo can't capture anything but the hardcore fanatics and the kiddies for the simple reason that their consoles have always been about the games first.
I don't see the Revolution making a dent in the console war. Another 3rd place finish for the Big N.
I agree they won't make a dent, but it's not because they capture only fanatics and kiddies. Their game library just isn't what it used to be (hasn't been since the SNES, not counting handhelds).
They're running mostly on the steam of their in-house titles and those are pretty limited. Mario, Zelda, Metroid franchises and a large number of multiplayer oriented games (which is what I've found a lot of people are drawn to who are neither hardcore fanatics or kiddies).
Of course that doesn't make much of a game library. The GameCube for most people would seem like a dead system for some time now, with the only really anticipated title left being another in-house Nintendo Zelda game. Whereas owners of a PS2 probably have had more titles trickle in up to and probably some time after the PS3 is released.
