At the risk of seeming Noobish, what does it do?

lets you play pirated games, it claims. oh, everyone will say 'backups' but we all know you didn't really back that game up.

Have you ever seen what kids do to optical media?

thank you for finally saying it! what do people think, that the cops are going to bust down their door if they say pirated?

anyways guys i have been fallowing mod chips for a long time now and one thing i know for certain is that the first mod chip for a console is always the worst. so waiting a few more months and waiting for a few different models of chips to be produced is a very good idea.

Will have to pick up a second Wii to mod while leaving one for online play. Also waiting for my R4 Revolution of the DS to ship 🙂

can you even turn off the wireless? all its gonna take is for your neighbor to install an open wireless router and your wii to automagically connect in the middle of the night and bam!

You have to configure the wireless settings for it to connect.

You can also turn off WiiConnect24.

1) The chip shown is a single IC. Not since the early days of PS1 modchips have they been that simple. A Wii modchip I would imagine will be very similar to GC or even PS2 chips - which means they'll consist of more than a single package. Plus, there should be a way to update the chip!

2) Solder locations 1 & 8 on the diagram both look like ground points, which means whoever created that diagram is a moron.

3) I do a lot of business with www.mod-chip.com, and they have no information on any Wii mod chips.

4) The story submitted to Digg was by a new user, and the website is also new.

EDIT: This looks much more genuine to me.

Looks like this is for real. A 2nd modchip is already in development and will be available pretty quickly after the Wiinja, and it's wireless as well.

2. Wow, there's lots of proof, high-quality pics, etc, in that article
3. Did you install your Wiinja and test it?

The Wiinja website is down! Sounds like a guaranteed fake to me. I think the Cyclowiz is due out early February?

Hmm... sounds interesting. I'm going to practice my soldering skills on my friends PS2 to get more songs on GH2, so this sounds like a worthwhile 2nd project.

What's this all about? I'd like to have more GH2 songs.

Bah I meant wireless. And no I didn't get my Wiinja yet, the guy I'm getting it from said he'll get his lot of 100 of them in at sometime this week, then he can ship it to me.

There isn't going to be "lots of proof" until people start receiving these chips either. Considering vendors haven't gotten their shipments yet, it makes sense that there aren't a lot of people testing these out.

What exactly are the modchips - EEPROMS, microcontrollers, FPGAs, full/semi-custom VLSI, etc?

I don't know the technical name, but I used to have a PIC programmer that I would program playstation chips with bck in the day. They may be called PIC chips but I'm not sure.

It looks like the Wiinja is basically this chip with a few more legs, so once the code gets released on the net, you iwll see these things VERY cheap, since blank chips are about $1. However I'm sure it will take some time to get out on the net, considering there won't be much money in the market once it does.

I just hope this doesn't turn the Wii into another Dreamcast 🙁

I'd be happy to have another little white console that kicks all kinds of ass, and doesn't complain about backing up my games so that I can fearlessly leave it with my little brother for him to abuse. 😛
