One trend you forgot to mention is online. If Nintendo doesn't open their eyes and include an online-ready console, they are definitely digging their own grave in the hardware business.Originally posted by: RagingBITCHIt seems like Sony set a trend by having DVD capability and backwards compatibility, along with MS setting a trend of having a hard drive in a console. I think Nintendo is doomed if they can't guarantee all three in their next gen console. (Same with MS if they can't guarantee backwards compatibility. From the looks of it the PS3 will have all 3)
My list of must-have console features:
- Online ready out of the box for atleast broadband. Online is the future of gaming, and with the success of XBOX Live, it shows that gamers want to get online. It makes no sense to me for any future games to not have some sort of online compatibility (single player RPG's excluded).
- Hard drive. The XBOX has shown how handy a hard drive can be. Basically unlimited saves, downloadable content, and music ripping capabilities for your own soundtracks.
- Backwards capability. Not one of these companies are spending the money on R&D for new formats, so there's no reason to not have this feature in. Sony proved this could be done, and done well.
- I think all consoles should adopt Sony's DualShock Controller. IMO the best controller ever. The analog sticks are perfect, and the analog for the face and shoulder buttons are GREAT.
- 4 controller ports. Microsoft and Nintendo have this down pat, but where is Sony? Multiplayer adapters should've gone the way of the dodo by now.
That is because the PSX doesn't have 4 controller parts. Kind of putting a new mobo in to your pc without any changes and expecting for it to boot up and work. It mayhave problems. Or sticking something else in to your system that wasn't already their in the first place and having it work iirc.
Hence the 4 port adapters you see for the ps2.
ps2 controllers feel great for me. I guess I'm just so use to it. The GC doesn't look like it would be any good for fighting games. The xbox I haven't spent a lot of time with but it feels alright. Don't like the shape of the 4 buttons though. Ps2 is most comfortable for me.
downloadable xbox stuff to hd. What have you guys d/l that wasn't illegal? Just wondering as I haven't followed stuff on xbox in ages. Can you download new tracks and levels yet? If so in what games. I know that you 'can' but what is actually being used in real life, and not just what can be done.

There's been a bunch of levels/downloadable content available so far. You can also rip music onto the hard drive and if you care to mod it, rip games directly to your hard drive/turning it into a media center. And what do you mean the 4 port adapters for PS2/PSX not having 4 controller ports? If you're talking about that POS $800 PSX media center then yea, obviously it doesn't have 4 controller ports.
