Nintendo 64

I am thinking of picking up a nintendo 64 just for fun. I know somebody selling it for $30 with the following,

N64 Console. It?s the Star Wars Racer collector set. Comes with Star Wars Racer game and one controller. Will also include second N64 controller, and three games: BattleTanx Global Assault, Army Men - Sarge?s Heroes II, and Resident Evil 2.

I currently own a nintendo gamecube and it would be interesting to get hold of the oldies and enjoy. what do you guys think?

Golden Eye was thee best game for N64

after using a mouse for gaming nothing compares, I can't play XBOX or any other FPS games with those stupid pointy sticks

sounds great. i will wait for more suggestions and make a decision. ohh by the way, does an N64 need a memory card?

Most games (nearly all) will not need a memory card.

Some games will require a memory expansion pack (Donkey Kong and Perfect Dark comes to mind).

EB games sells a console and game controller for $25.
They have some spare parts in the store, and you can get used games online. Plus there is Ebay for parts and more games.
I bought an extra console, with controller, and then bought an extra controller.
On the games, wipe the contacts with alcohol before using them in the system.
I had a few cartridges that wouldn't work until I did this.

I'd say to do it. For the cost of the console and games, it's worth it. The best games still go for $20-$30, like Mario Party, but my daughter had fun playing them with friends over. The cruising car games are fun, I've got all 3 now. Mario tennis was ok. Wave racer sux. I picked up Pilot Wings for $5.

Has anyone checked out Nintendo DS? Metroid Prime looks great on that little screen. It reminds me of the old nintendo handhelds, I had a fantastic collection of those. I wonder if I can still find those.......

Alright, I'm doing it! Thanks for all the help. They have the Zelda series for N64 right?

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask

Still have my Zelda carts. Kick ass system.

And remember to get Goldeneye

If you can get Golden Eye then yes do it. its 30 bucks. The thing that sucked about N64 is the joy sticks tended to wear out pretty quickly if I remember correctly. So I hope you don't get crapppy ones.

Goldeneye on N64... one of the best FPS games on any format ever. Perfect Dark (also by Rare) is better in most ways, and a very excellent game, but doesnt quite have the Goldeneye magic. The joystick isnt even an issue here, the game was designed well for it - infact the game would not have been as good with a mouse.

Great replay value too, worth beating it on the hardest setting and the best challenge is unlocking the cheats, some of which are insanely hard -yet strangely doable with ample perseverance and penache- like the Facility mission on 00 Agent within 2.05.

True, the joysticks are used. I bought a purple one, is a little mushy, but works fine. Also bought a regular one, and it's practically brand new.
You can visit EB Games and look at them before you buy if you want an extra. You may find one in good condition. Good to have a couple on hand for the car racing games. And you midas well get a couple because they won't be around much longer.

I will be getting the N64 next weekend. I will get hold of Goldeneye. I am already getting two controllers with the package. Lets c how i like it at first, then I'll go ahead and get more accessories if needed.

Yeah definately get Golden Eye, I would also reccomend Mario Party 1 and 2 and Mario Kart (Both excellent games to play with friends). It's a shame all the 007 games have been terrible since golden eye...

Where can you get N64 roms? My console is broken but I still have many of the games...Is it against CoC to ask this question. If so I'll remove it immediately.
