The 2CD set for $10 is mine.

EDIT: Has anyone gotten through checkout successfully? I tried to pay via PayPal and it kicked me back to the main order page. Are they gonna e-mail me further instructions, or did my order just not go through? Also, what about shipping charges if you're going for the CDs?

Wow, their servers are way backed up. I did the $5 download thing and after several retries my order finally went through. Now I have the download link, but the download keeps abruptly stopping after a few megabytes. I chose the flac option and it should be a 600+mb zip file. I guess I'll wait till their servers ease up a bit.

Anyway, thanks OP.

Finally a creative artist taking matters into his own hands! I've been waiting a long time for this, thanks so much for sharing it out on AT.

$5 for an album and it's legal, I in!

I just ordered the $5 download and every time I click the download link it fails after no more than 170KB. I really hope I can complete the download since it says it is a one time download link...

If all else fails you'll be able to torrent it eventually. You already paid for it.

Thanks, OP. I'll be ordering this once I get home from work tonight!

By the way, if I order the FLAC Lossless version, what do I need to burn this to CD? Also, since it's lossless, will burning it to CD be like a regular pressing I'd buy in a store (never dealt with FLAC before)?

You can use the open source FLAC software to convert them back to WAV. The "F" stands for free.

FLAC Download Page

It will be just like a retail CD, no loss of quality whatsoever. FLAC just compresses the tracks to about 50% of their original size.

I wonder if $5 for four albums is only the same amount as what a record company pays out to the artist or if its many times more that normal. Don't some contracts only pay a few pennies to a few dimes per cd sold?

Artist get "points" (or a percentage) on their records. The more pull you have, the more points you can get. I bet wikipedia has an exhaustive explanation of this.

Just a warning for those [like me] who wanted to buy the $10 CD set: It's like 6.95 for shipping. That made me figure I might as well hold off until it's available in stores. But I'm still going to buy it.

I think -- hope? -- this is going to be a very good thing for all music, not just nin fans. If Trent -- free from any record company control -- can release something on HIS terms, for a reasonable price, and people STILL pay for it, and all that, I think this could really help shape the way music is handled. We can only hope.

$10 for 2 CDs is more than reasonable, and if you still continue to pirate it, you're just being cheap.

Bought the $5 version.

I will absolutely support this type of delivery.

Although like others the download keeps failing after 7MB.

I like the delivery system, even if I don't like this particular kind of music. 🙂

This is excellent. I purchased the Niggy Tardust album last year. I didn't even really like the music, it was mainly to support the distribution method. NIN, however, I can get into a lot more, so this is definitely worth $5 to me, will pick it up sometime (probably in a few days after things have slowed down a bit). Big props to Reznor, I really like what he's doing and hope this distribution method works out well for them.

Very very cool, thanks for the heads-up on this. Old NIN fan here, remember seeing him at First Ave here during "Pretty Hate Tour" in 1990. Their site's clogged right now but I've saved a desktop link so I wont' forget to check later.

Sweet! Can't wait, finally will have something new to listen to.

I was finally able to download the FLAC versions.

Question... I know how to convert from FLAC->MP3 via WAV but is there a way to maintain the ID3 tags along the way?

binister: from the hydrogen audio forums: foobar is probably the easiest way - most especially as it will transfer the tags as well as converting the audio. If your FLAC files are well tagged then this is a real bonus.
