I know about war, I've been in battle, I've had friends die. I would never say that war is a good thing. But putting up a picture of the President and ranting about how terrible the war is, is a definite political statement. You can like any artists you like for whatever reason you like. I don't have to. You can have your opinion, I can disagree. But even if I disagree, I won't be questioning the health of your brain.Originally posted by: Deadtrees

I think so. I like bands because I like their music, not their opinions. I like actors because of their acting not because I like their opinions. Whenever they think they are more than what they are, it pisses me off. These are not elected officials, they can be the biggest idiots around, but they have a talent that people pay to see or hear. Their opinions are just their personal opinions, and they should understand that. If they want to dabble in politics they can run for office.Originally posted by: Insane3D

I understand what you were, and still saying...I'm not disputing MTV's rights here, although you keep replying to me like I am. I guess we just misuderstood each other.
Anyway, the questions I posted were not for MTV to answer, they were for you. I was asking your opinion. I could care less what MTV thinks...
Okay, I don't like political music. That's just me. As a matter of fact, I don't like bands who get involved in politics even when they're off the stage. Springsteen really pissed me off with what he was doing during the presidential election, and I used to be a big fan. I'm not ever going to deny that they have the right to do it, I just personally don't like it.
Fair enough...thanks for answering.
If I may just ask one question, would your opinion of Springsteen be the same now if he had been doing the same thing for the opposite person?
Based on your conclusion nobody should be allowed to form a political opinion except for those who plan to run for office.
I don't see how you get that. Anyone can have a political opinion, I just don't have to buy the CD's that they preach their politics on. I am not denying their right to have an opinion, I just don't like when a band or actor preaches their opinion as if someone cares what they think. The reason they have an auidence is not because of what they think, but because of their talent. They should realize that. Again, this is just MY opinion, I'm not denying their right to think or preach what they do. I just don't have to agree with it.
Political opnions are their 'talents' as well. Think about all those great artists and how many had political views in their arts. If saying 'war is not right' considered to be extremely political, you've got a serious issue in your brain. Just think about all those men we praise, they were/are political. The reason I like Ali, Picaso, The Doors, Janis Joplin and whoever is because they talked about the society with their talents.
Rap's a whole other story. How a music that focuses on mostly murder and abusing woman goes unpunished is beyond me.Originally posted by: Deadtrees
Fine. Start listening to nowaday's rap. All they ever talk about is brand name cloth they wear, cars they've got, who they're going to kill, how they are the best in the world, and how they've got all this money but nobody to share with.

That's an entirely different discussion for a different thread (and a different forum for that matter).Originally posted by: Deadtrees

I, too, was a soldier and that's why I don't like the war we are having. A war is failure of politics. Sometimes, there's no way stopping it but to happen. But, it was different this time. This time, it was a succesful creation of wrong politics. Bush could have solved the matter without going into the war instead he planned it and started it for his as well as his people's own benefit. He not only killed people of Iraq but also people of his own. He also dragged people from other country into this war.
A soldier is there to protect and fight for the country. Not to be wasted by politicans greed.

Nine Inch Nails dropped out of the MTV Movie Awards after clashing with the network over an image of President Bush the band planned as a performance backdrop.
The Bush image was to accompany the song "The Hand That Feeds," which obliquely criticizes the Iraq war. It includes the lyrics: "What if this whole crusade's a charade / And behind it all there's a price to be paid / For the blood on which we dine / Justified in the name of the holy and the divine."
MTV said in a statement to its news division that the network was disappointed the industrial rock band would not perform but had been "uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement."
The Foo Fighters will perform in place of the Trent Reznor-led band at the awards being taped June 4 in Los Angeles.
Reznor said in a statement posted on the band's Web site Thursday that the image of the president would have been unaltered and "straightforward."
"Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," he said.
Nine Inch Nails' fourth studio album and first in six years, "With Teeth," debuted this month at No. 1.

Religion is as bad as politics. Heresy was one song and I don't recall Trent ever wanting to hang a picture of the Pope behind him at a performance.Originally posted by: thomsbrain
so when trent made albums ranting about how he hates god and christianity, it was ok, but now that he hates president bush, he sucks?
i mean, it's cool not to believe in god and all, but to worship president bush instead? i just gotta say, you are one wacko SOB.
I know that and I agree 100%. It's just really sad that the bad apples get the limelight and make the whole genre look bad in the eye of the public. The fact that black community leaders are not doing anything about the negativity "rap" promotes is amazing.Originally posted by: desk
man, i think i've said this about 37 times over the last few days. rap is NOT all about murder and abusing women. however, that is what sells, so thats what you hear on the radio/mtv.
there are plenty of hip-hop artists with a positive message: talib kweli, the roots, mos def, common, de la soul, a tribe called quest, black eyed peas, etc.
the people who claim that rap is all negative are just being brainwashed by the manufactured "culture" created by clear channel and viacom.
