NIN officially suck now

Nine Inch Nails dropped out of the MTV Movie Awards after clashing with the network over an image of President Bush the band planned as a performance backdrop.

The Bush image was to accompany the song "The Hand That Feeds," which obliquely criticizes the Iraq war. It includes the lyrics: "What if this whole crusade's a charade / And behind it all there's a price to be paid / For the blood on which we dine / Justified in the name of the holy and the divine."

MTV said in a statement to its news division that the network was disappointed the industrial rock band would not perform but had been "uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement."

The Foo Fighters will perform in place of the Trent Reznor-led band at the awards being taped June 4 in Los Angeles.

Reznor said in a statement posted on the band's Web site Thursday that the image of the president would have been unaltered and "straightforward."

"Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," he said.

Nine Inch Nails' fourth studio album and first in six years, "With Teeth," debuted this month at No. 1.

Agreed. Shut up and sing. If you're an entertainer, be it actor, singer or whatever does not mean that anyone gives a shite about your political opinions. You are not elected, you make money because people want to hear you sing.

So they suck because they're trying to get a message across? Sorry, can't agree with you on this one. I'd much rather have only 5 bands who want to sing about the current state of our government than 500 rappers who talk about some bitch they fvcked the other night or how gangsta they are or a variety of other things that somehow makes them a great person.

We have a whole forum dedicated to people's political opinions that I care less about than Trent Reznor's.

Usually people do...politics and entertainment have always had a good relationship.

Trent was better when he whined about how daddy didn't love him. Now it's boring Bush whining like everyone else. I am not pro-Bush. I am anti-politics. Especially in music.

Did you even know that the song was political before this article?

thats his song, let him sing it, on the MTV thing they can not allow anyone they want, but alot of the greatest bands, singers all had politcal views and its there right to sing what ever they want, you just don;t have to listen to them, turn off the radio or don't buy the CD

Oh give me a break. Yeah, everyone is Bush whining now...right?

Seems you are a bit sensitive about this for a "non-political" person..

Just because he is an entertainer does not take away his option to use the media as a soapbox for his personal beliefs. People from all parts of the political spectrum use it as such, why can't he?

I'm not trying to deny his right to sing it. I'm just stating my opinion that I think it sucks, as did the OP.

He can. I just won't listen. I'm not denying his right to perform whatever he wants. MTV has the right to deny anyone they want.

It's the stupid trendy thing to do now. Just as being pro-Bush is the redneck thing to do. Paris Hilton should be making a anti-Bush statement any day now.

MTV can do whatever they want. They're a private organization, they can make any rule they want. You don't have to agree with it.

Please...point out a lot of recent stuff that has been anti - poor old GWB? I'm not talking about the Dixie chicks or springsteen back around election time...I mean RECENTLY.

Music has always been a area where political discourse is common...I guess in this day and age of crap like Britney and N'Sync, that's no longer "cool" right?

You missed my point...but that's ok..

In your post you mentioned that MTV was saying they couldn't play, not them refusing.

As for my opinion, pleae don't make assumptions. Can you explain to me what the problem is with having a picture up in the background of the President?

Edit:

Would it be acceptable to perform in front of a picture of the President if you were singing a pro-GWB type song?

You called yourself "anti-politics", and therefore have no right to decide whether other peoples political views are valid.

Here's what I thought your point was: You don't see why MTV is making a big deal about a picture. Here's my point: It doesn't MATTER if you agree with MTV or not, they're entitled to do whatever they want. It's their organization. You can always start your own cable network if you are so inclined.
If I STILL missed it, please explain your point for the less intelligent.

Good for them for not conforming... political bands are the good ones, the rest are just carbon copies.
