Yes, it's still a rumor as it hasn't been officically announced.
Anyway, the spec. looks fantastic and the the part that excites me the most is EXPEED2. It is clamimed that it wouldn't have that nasty problems of EXPEED1's WB/Gray cast. If so, I can finally possibly buy Nikon dslrs.

Now that it's officially confirmed:
Native ISO is 100-6400.

The Canon 60D is such epic fail compared to this camera, and I am saying that as a Canon shooter myself.

If Canon doesn't drop the price of the 60D into the sub $1000 range, I honestly can't see anyone without an established Canon lens collection buying it over the D7000 when the latter is better in just about every way.

Exactly. Considering what Canon has done with 40D, I think they'll (have to) do the same.

It's interesting how Nikon is leading the market very aggressively. Canon is again left behind though they, finally, changed their conservative lineup this time. I hope D7000 serves as a wake-up call for Canon.

Canon needs to get their act together with their AF systems. The 5D Mark II is still using an ancient 9 point AF system with ONE cross-type point, just like on my 5D. In fact, when I moved to a 5D from my 40D, the one big thing I missed was the better AF performance on the 40D. In low light, I am often forced to focus+recompose with my 5D because the off-center AF points simply suck. Focusing and recomposing is OK with slower lenses, but it's far from ideal with a f/1.4 lens on a FF camera.

On the xxD front, the 60D is using the same AF system from the 40D...9 cross points. Nikon has really stepped their game up with this 39 point system, so hopefully that will provoke Canon to 1) develop something better or 2) stick the 7D's AF system into other cameras.

Which would then drop the price of the 550D. Blehhhhhh...

Maybe 7D prices will drop a little also?

Either way, the D7k seems to be quite a bang-for-buck...

I saw the prices of D90 plummeting down to 740 USD some time back. It then bounced back to 850 and is now out of stock virtually everywhere.

This time the Nikon folks did good to make sure they do not have a huge stash of D90s lying it their warehouses (or the dealers).

The D7000 looks great and they did not remove the autofocus motor too.

What i did not care for was the increase in pixel count.... it did not need a 16 mega pix sensor. They could have settled in for the one on the D90 and just given the exspeed II processor and hence reduce cost.

Its wonderful to see RAID like arrays of memory on the camera. Its so much configurable...

I dont see anything else to make a D90 owner jump ship. How ever i would love to see the D7000 competing against others Canon 60D and also the Pentax K7.

Nikon still doesnt have a wide angle prime (after factoring in the 1.5x multiplication). Say a 14 / 15 / 16 mm prime???

Uhh...Nikon has a full range of wide angle primes (e.g. 14mm)

But that's really a moot point, because Nikon has the 14-24mm f/2.8 that EASILY trounces any of Canon's ultrawide primes. And for crop-sensor cameras, there's the 10-24, 12-24, and Tokina 11-16.

If anything, Nikon has the lead over Canon when it comes to wide-angles and ultrawides. Canon's 16-35mm is a sorry excuse for a lens when compared to the 14-24mm Nikkor.

I definitely see this as more of a 7D competitor than a 60D competitor. Too bad for Canon that it's priced as a 60D competitor. Canon needs to drop prices immediately. 7D $1300-$1400, 60D <$1000, T2i <$750.

And yes, Canon needs to step up their AF, like, yesterday. I still think they should make a 5D Mark IIN with the same sensor/etc. as the 5D2 but dropping in the AF array from the 7D.

I've been around, I lurk a lot more than I post these days. Although now that I think about it for about nine months I haven't even been lurking that much...

I'm finally spending some quality time with my camera though so I'll be spending time in here.
