I just finished my 10k in about 56 minutes. Not bad considering my dog yanked me around at every thought of a cat and a deaf dog started running with us and I had to stop to so the owner could get him.

Anyways, if you guys ran, how did you do?

i went for a run in the park next to my house yesterday and stumbled upon the end of this run. I didn't know it was taking place. I'm not really up to 10K runs right now. I could probably finish one but my time wouldn't be pretty.

I've upped my running from nothing to 3.5 miles 3x a week over the past few weeks, and eventually would like to enter some races. I still am not even close to being competitive for a 5K so I wouldn't even enter one of those yet yet.

I should clarify, I ran the race on my own. Nike had the main races set up in the cities or you can run on your own. Work was too much to take time off to go anywhere, but maybe next year.

Rank was 7883 overall for the nike + runners. I am not sure if this included city racers. Not bad seeing they had ~75k runners. Much better than I expected.

I typically run every other day to every 3 days. More often outside of softball season as I tend to get cramps in my calves. I use the increase your endurance / increase your speed challenges from Itunes.

Unless you're looking to finish within the top few, 5k races (or just about any race) aren't about competing with everyone else, they're about competing with yourself. If you run a decent time compared to your average, you are by definition competitive!

Personally, when I see people huffing and puffing along near the back, I have the most respect for them because they're doing what they need to do to get in shape without worrying about how well they finish. On the flip side, when you're running and get your ass beat by someone who's older and looks more out of shape, it's a darn good motivator ;) but you don't get that unless you go and race.

I get passed by tons of people who "look more out of shape than me" every single time I go for a run (I run in a par usually so a lot of other people running there).

You could also look at it from the perspective of those people huffing at the back did not put in the time and runs to be able to be faster, so therefore they are not really doing what they need to do to get in shape. For all you know they ran 2-3 times and gave up because they thought it was too hard, but ended up racing anyways and were satisfied with only finishing. I'm not saying everyone who runs at the back is in that situation but I know for a fact some are and I don't judge anyone for it. I will say that I am too competitive and tend not to settle for finishing.

Congrats OP!

I see they shut Canada out of the races this year, which is a shame because I ran the Vancouver race last year and it was a fantastic event. Well, maybe next year.

I did a half marathon saturday morning. Set a new PR of 1:39. Wasn't very impressed with the course though, there were large chunks of it on loose sand and the 500-ish people running on it really kicked up a cloud of dust. Add to that, the tee shirt was cotton/polyester and there were no medals or ribbons for the half marathon finishers combined with a fairly high price of registration made the overall run pretty disappointing. The irony is, they had some decent sponsors behind it so they had the money.

Meh, at least all the R&R events will be giving out technical shirts now. :)

If I was more in shape I would have headed down to OSU and ran in that group. Would have been a TON of fun, but my 10k time wouldn't be desireable lol
