Since they haven't discovered the smoking gun yet the White House has begun to downplay the WMD angle. They may still find some but it looks as if there was a major shift in the world after 911 and WMD was a bit of smokescreen to make changes in the middle east.

Wow, I really want to see how the administration is going to weasel out of this one in the upcoming days. After all, that was the number 1 reason to invade in the first place. I'm sure the international community is going be very understanding when Bush or Rummy says: "Yeah, but look at all the other good things that have happened thanks to the invasion. WMD's arn't that big a deal anyway, come on guys! Y'all want WMD's? I reckon we'll find some in Syria. We have indisbutable evidence! Who want to get their invading on?"

I supported the war, I knew the WMD's were just another reason NOT the reason to get rid of Saddam. Of course the rest of America may see it different.

Looks like Saddam might have tried to bury the evidence.

I don't think Bush won't take a hit from Conservatives and maybe not even the swing voters but the Liberals will be screeching about it.

some people here (and other apologists around the globe) seem to run on internet time. Let the truth drug run its course and we'll get the goods on these WMDs from the captured elite of the fallen regime.

OMG you are SOOO right!!!!

lol

Actually we who are against the war are just sitting back watching WEASEL Bush live up to his name, with downlplaying the WMD token. And further, the WEASEL's party are doing themselves in just fine: look at Mr. Rick Santorum's current controversy with insensitive remarks akin to Trent Lott's. The Republicans are just proving how pathetic they are, and they need to be ousted.

Period.

I'd like to suggest that people are really upset about this take some action. As much as the system is corrupt it can still get results if enough people weigh in on it.

Look up your representatives and fax them a letter explaining your concerns. If you have any questions about who your reps are you can start here. For the more tenacious of you I'd suggest sending a fax every week.

At the very least demand accountability.

WMD WMD WMD WMD WMD WMD, how many times did we hear that come out of his mouth.
oh well, the main reason for this war was re-election, oil and revenge are also on the list.

I am glad saddam is gone, but I sure wish bush was gone too.

The american people have short memory's and are easily fooled.

was I against the war from the start? 50/50, it maybe be for the best that we got this war over with, but then again it's not all over with and the long term effect is still uncertain.

Sorry bud... "Is Said to Assert" is about as non-news as it gets. Think about those words for a moment.

As for "building blocks" I have some zinc oxide and hydrogen peroxide in my bathroom, plenty of "building blocks" for a thermal nuclear device, clearly. No doubt if you break down all the molecules in Iraq you'll find some building blocks also.

"WITH THE 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION, south of Baghdad, Iraq, April 20 ? A scientist who claims to have worked in Iraq's chemical weapons program for more than a decade has told an American military team that Iraq destroyed chemical weapons and biological warfare equipment only days before the war began, members of the team said.

They said the scientist led Americans to a supply of material that proved to be the building blocks of illegal weapons, which he claimed to have buried as evidence of Iraq's illicit weapons programs.

The scientist also told American weapons experts that Iraq had secretly sent unconventional weapons and technology to Syria, starting in the mid-1990's, and that more recently Iraq was cooperating with Al Qaeda, the military officials said."

His knowledge was good enough to find these building blocks BURIED, willing to bet the rest of his information will pan out as well. His story is no different than dozens of other independent interviews with former scientists from Iraq.

You seem to forget or conviently ignore the fact Saddam submitted a report to the UN outlining his WMD programs and stockpiles, alot of those were NEVER accounted for, are you suggesting they just VANISHED without a TRACE?

Iraqis: We Were Told to Destroy Bacteria

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Six Iraqi scientists working at different Baghdad research institutions were ordered to destroy some bacteria and equipment and hide more in their homes before visits from U.N. weapons inspectors in the months leading up to the war, the scientists told The Associated Press.

an interesting look into the pattern of noncompliance, although they do falsely claim no banned weapons have been found, they have just been conventional and new.

We believed an Iraqi lawyer, Jessica Lynch is probably pretty happy we took his word, but then again, he NEEDED to put his and his family's life on the line right?

So we shouldn't believe Saddam when he submits a 12,000 page report, we shouldn't believe Bush when he says the same thing, we shouldn't believe the Iraqi scientists who can actually lead us to buried WMD materials, but we should believe YOU? hhhmmmmm

very much agreed

all this spewing out of "possible" WMD-related finds of heresay(sp?) is really getting boring and old out of these pro-Bush regime camps desperate to prove the war's worth and to try to provide backing as to what their bush says.

not possible, found and proven, look above.

phillyTIM we all know you hate bush and that anything you post is based off that and will still show your bias, enough already.

The U.S. military said police on Monday arrested six men who had been planning to blow up two of Karbala's mosques. Five of the men claimed to be members of Saddam's Baath Party, and one said he belonged to al-Qaida, said Army Capt. Jimmie Cummings.

But I guess since Bush said Al-Qaidi was in Iraq along with Saddam's forces that must not be true, that guy probably just made that up..........

These stories aren't evidence. They're the same speculation as all the other WMD scares we've seen so far. For it to be evidence, it would have to stand up under scrutiny. There is no scrutiny because no one's been given any information. They're the same story, the second one is a report on the first one.

An unnamed scientist who fears for his safety though he's with the U.S. armed forces leads them to spots where undescribed precursors of an unnamed illegal weapon are alleged to be found. The reporter who reports the story is not allowed to talk to the scientist or say what was found and had his report scanned by the military prior to being published.

What are these precursors? How long were they buried? Do they have any other use other than developing illegal weapons? Why can't the materials and what they are supposed to create be named? Every other possible discovery is reported immediately. Why secrecy instead of screaming that a smoking gun was found?

You can bet that it will pan out, but for now all that exists is speculation. As of now we don't know what was buried, so I can't comment on what he was able to find, and how much of an achievement it is.

I never heard anyone suggesting they vanished in thin air. The truth is, no one has any idea what did happen to them. Nice rant about the subject, but all Thera said is that these latest stories aren't proof yet. And he's right.

No they have not disclosed the material yet, but it was found and tested and it was positive, apparently it is a building block precursor for WMD.

Let's just assume he wasn't a scientist with intimate knowledge, he just led our forces out into the desert and said dig here, what a lucky guess, guy should have been a UN inspector

read up for a new article, al-queeda arrested in Iraq with 5 Baath party members...

and what about the other article that outlines the ways Saddam hid things historically from UN inspectors???

you hate bush,. woo woo

the fact is he led forces to buried WMD materials which were excavated and tested, they were positive. You can sit here and tell me the sky is blue all day long, I won't believe you when the facts prove otherwise....
