Nickelodeon to air special on gay parents despite protests

Yes, I hate gays and eveybody knows it. There are a couple on this board (some who don't want to be known) that I'm good friends with. Hell, Jerboy and I are becoming friends. Yeah, I hate gays.

I just don't think that it's healthy for a gay couple to be parents, and I don't think it's healthy to undermind it by explaining to kids that everything is okay in the world, including homosexuality. If you don't like my view, good for floggin' you. 🙂

That's not what ffm is saying, though. He'd have the entire channel removed from his cable lineup because they aired a show about gay people. He apparently hates gay people.

I read that as blocking the channel on his own television, not petitioning his cable provider to drop the channel entirely.

Right, but not merely not watching it is completely different than having the entire channel removed from your TV.

Right, but not merely not watching it is completely different than having the entire channel removed from your TV.

Different, perhaps. But it's his television and his children (in theory since I don't think he has any) and it's his right to decide to block or not block any channel or program on it.
I draw the line on people trying to regulate what _I_ view based on THEIR political agendas.

Nick has made Rosie their de-facto spokesperson with her role as Kids Choice host. Now that she's on her crusade as a lesbian celebrity they are giving her a platform. If people want to protest and not watch, that's their choice.

Nickelodeon enjoys a reputation as a young children or kid channel, that is to say many parents are left with the impression that they might casually plop little Suzy or Ralphie down in front of the set and expect relatvely little harm to come from it. Little Suzy and Ralphie will be an open port into which all forms of sh!t in the form of Rosie's political and social statements may flood in. Anyone who would not care that their kid is getting a big dose of "wisdom" via Rosie has unfortunately been flooded into already, no hope for them I fear.

The good thing that might come from this is that eventually (perhaps now sooner than later), Nickelodeon will not enjoy such a harmless happyland image, and that's a good thing.

I think social and political views and messages are best coming from the child's own parent(s) and immediate family, not from TV, or Hollywood, or any other self-proclaimed experts they might decide to trot out that day. My children already understand not all families are the same as our own, they have met and ineract with all sort of different people from different backgrounds and I'm certain they don't need Rosie's elucidation to understand it to any greater extent. I am sorry for the television orphans, as this is all they have.
