Nice! I just wasted $158.

Doh! Red light violation for $158:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WxId3Z5MhI

I'm the 2nd car turning right. The first and third cars likely got a violation, as well. It looked like both didn't do a full stop, also.

I just think, this time, it is stupid because you can clearly see the cars on the intersecting road are turning left and thereby, blocking further traffic from going into the lane where I am turning. So, in this situation, why would I need to do a full stop on red when I can clearly see that all cars are turning left and my turning lane is clear?

Here is a Google Street View of the intersection: http://g.co/maps/j8scd . Clearly you can see that there is no way that cars turning left from the intersecting roads will be able to make a u-turn back into the lane where I am turning right.

Update: News article on this topic: http://www2.tbo.com/news/breaking-n...ns-mount-at-tampa-intersections-wi-ar-347998/ . The intersection on the video is the third most ticketed intersection. I'm curious if the ranking of the intersection list also matches the ranking of the most accident prone intersections in the area.

Because it's a red light. That means stop.

Refer to sig.

Since that lane is right turn only, it should be synced with the cross street's left turn signal. Like you said, you can clearly seem them turning.

About a year ago Miami-Dade released a report which stated that something like 80% of the red light camera tickets issued were for right on red without stopping.

If you turn right as red without stopping you deserve a ticket as the law is written today but I think a lot of these intersections are setup to generate tickets.

That's a rhetorical question, right?

You need to obey the law.
Having said that, yes it seems they like deliberately build roads nowadays specifically for getting easy tickets. Which makes me wanna bitch slap some mayors.

We are not in disagreement.

My city was at the point of turning off all the red light cameras for good earlier this year but wavered at the last moment and renewed the contract with the company who runs them.

The city made a big stink for two months about it but the truth is, the city wanted more of the revenue than they were getting so they went on TV, radio, etc saying they were canceling the program and any lights working after a certain date would be illegal, blah, blah. Well, they got the bigger percentage they wanted when the contracting company got scared and the cameras stayed.

I'm all for obeying laws. But as you can clearly see in the video, the lane I'm turning to is clear. If violations are meant to prevent accidents, then look at the Google Street View of the intersection. I would say that the chances of me getting into an accident is equal to the scenario of stopping on red before turning.

Some common sense need to be injected into some laws.

The lights are to maintain order in traffic as much as they are to prevent accidents.

The common sense part typically takes the form of a uniformed police officer who may or may not write you for that violation based on his/her judgment - in this case the camera just does what it's programmed to do. You trip the sensor you get the ticket...

Where do you live that they send you a copy of a full color video of your violation? I think that's really cool!

Sorry about your ticket. I think you know you're wrong and you seem silly trying to justify it.

If you're visiting Tampa this time around, just be aware of all the red lights being deployed.

I've got no choice but to pay the ticket. But I'll be madly amused next time I stop at a red light before turning and some guy rear ends me. As you can see from the video, people's driving behavior for this scenario seem to indicate that the likely reaction is to just turn right without stopping. I wouldn't be surprised that some folks do not pay attention and just assume that the driver in front will turn without doing a full stop.

Because they have the green (left turn) and you have the red. Complete stop on the white line before turning right when it is clear to so do. Note that the road they and you are turning to is only 1 lane.

I always stop, just to make sure that I can proceed safely. :hmm:

Damn I thought CA drivers were shitty. You guys don't even creep through the crosswalk lines, just act as though you have a green.

That intersection also appears to have no red control left turn arrows. Meaning traffic can make left turns when yielding to through traffic. How do you know those cars making a left weren't darting in front of a car going 50mph about to go through the intersection?

Good luck when you strike some pedestrians or a cyclist while running a red on tape.

"Note that the road they and you are turning to is only 1 lane." This doesn't make sense to me. But your screen captures have given me another idea. The next time I'm on this road and the light is red, then I can just cut through the empty lot to go to the other road. I think the lot is not used for any business, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, I'm just being funny. Skipping the road would be inefficient to do so anyway.

I watched 3 cars run a red-light on my < 2 mile commute to work day before yesterday (two of them turned left on red). MA towns could rake in $$$ with traffic cameras.

Looks familiar:$

I made a much better effort at stopping but to no avail. I still did not totally fully stop, I californicated it.

You could have bought this for approx. $157 during the August fire sale. ;)

HP-TouchPad-hands-on-demo-19-slashgear1-580x407.jpg

I got hit (<5 mph) 2 weeks ago for stopping on red before doing a right turn, there was incoming traffic.
Young girl in her mid 20's thought I moving, before she noticed that I already stopped and had my rear brake lights on. :(
Gave her a stern warning that "if that's the way you're driving you might end up dead or kill someone because of your carelessness".
No damage to both cars.

In that case, consider me a big contributor to the city's revenue. This is the 2nd red light violation on my name for this year. The first incident was my wife's fault, but the car was in my name. This time, I'm the one in the driver's seat.

I wonder if I can use my violation notice as proof that I've made some extra revenue contributions to the city. Maybe I get VIP seating next time I visit city hall.

Well, on the bright side, if I get enough hits on my YouTube video. Then, I may be able to recoup the $158 after a couple of years.
