Yeah, but it didn't occur to "anyone" to disassemble a device driver to glean insights into future NVIDA product releases.

Whatever, i and many other people have been doing this for ages. Guru3d shows you it almost everytime you look at a Beta driver. This isn't new.

So this was all just a PR ploy. He didn't contact a lawyer, he knew nothing was stolen, he knew they didn't have a case, he knew that NONE of the comments in those forums were against TOS.

SUE THEM AT!!!!!!!!!!!

I for one hope this never appears on a court docket, as this would truly be a frivolous lawsuit regardless of which party pursued it.

As to their claim of plagiarism, it certainly doesn't appear to be so from this layman's perspective, they did however present the information about the 7800GS first, on Oct 22nd. KK, you said parallel discoveries often happen in the industry, but 7-8 days is not parallel. Obviously it couldn't have been that AT was unaware of the article since it is linked, albeit without even giving them the benefit of naming them.

IMO, it would have been a magnanimous gesture to have given a more direct credit to NGO, a very small site, instead of the offhanded method employed. Simply because they are small doesn't mean they should be treated arrogantly, which is how the comment "Unfortunately this will be their highest traffic day all year!" read to me. Perhaps if they had been given the named credit for a contribution that other sites recieve, that would have been their biggest trafffic day all year? :light:

Of course, they have responded in a manner that has sabotaged any hopes they held of growing into a respectable "peer" site, and that is the truly unfortunate thing for NGO IMHO. To them I offer this free advice; Take the high road, and in the future practice the professionalism you demand of others. You get what you give ;)

I can't agree that NGOHQ deserved a magnanimous gesture because they came out immediately swinging the plagiarism stick.

They also posted KK's initial email response on their website without his permission & ridiculed it. After that the twits only deserved to be ignored.

pfft really sad.

I've seen that sort of thing way back - nothing new at all. All it is just a little bit of reverse/lateral thinking. In short you can claim right over a procedure like that over publically available drivers even if you were the first to do it (which NGO weren't just for clarity). Some credit would be nice of course, but that's just 'moral' - so it's not even ethics and certainly not even law.

Geez.

They handled things about as badly as you could, but presuming the e-mails they posted were not altered, it appears they pointed out that the article was replicating their's, and asked rather bluntly and tactlessly that they be given credit for it. KK's response struck me as paraphrasing for, {you are a insignificant little site I never heard of, and I don't plan to acknowledge that we were scooped by you in any way} Power corrupts ;)

Why not add to the article that NGO's article managed to slip under the radar, and that having had it pointed out, AT would like to acknowledge that they provided very similar data about the 7800GS a full week before? Instead they added a link that didn't even boast the site's name, and failed to address the fact that the same method for uncovering the data was used. Given how KK acquired the info, it is entirely possible, if not probable, that the info was gleaned from the NGO article and he recieved it 2nd/3rd/ect hand.

Again, none of that excuses their very juvenile and unprofessional behavior towards AT or those who joined their forums, but IMO AT picked up some bad karma on this one.

They dont appear to be but the articles are. They merely highlighted in red a few random things. If you bring up a window of the AT article and a window of the NGO article, you can see that there is virtually nothing similar, except the way in which it was done...remember there are only so many ways to sift through the contents of a .dll,

This is only about the billionth time some no name website claimed an "Insider" article was copied, and not surprisingly the first thing ngotech did was repost the email (well at least my response to the email, not their portion of it), and then write a long sob story. Unfortunately this will be their highest traffic day all year!

Kristopher

I don't even know why you bothered to put a link to their site in your article. I would have given them a big FU.

Unfortunately giving them much attention also gives them credibility. My publisher advised me not even to put the link up in the first place - but I already did that by the time he told me that. I didn't think it was such a big deal since we have emails from this stuff dating back to the beginning of Oct, with third parties CC'ed too. The guy really had no chance if he wanted to make things legal.

I think the point was made and we don?t want this fight to go any further. To be honest, I really expected AnandTech to solve this issue in a nice way. We don?t care if the author of the article was to blame or his sources. We thought AnandTech would do the responsible thing and solve this in a professional manner. In the last two days, many new members joined our forums. Some were here only to cause trouble and ask ridiculous questions and were banned no question asked, while other raised valid questions that hopefully got answered. We believe we had valid claims and I hope it won?t happen again in the future. As of now these discussions are officially closed. Users that try to cause unwarranted grief will be banned; no questions asked. The discussion is over. AnandTech made their choice. Not only NGOHQ but other websites were disappointed to see that AnandTech took the approach they did and not work to resolve this. At this point, we are moving on, we have reviews to write and a lot of lost time to make up. I?m very sorry you had to see all of it in the past two days, but someone has to stand up against incidents like this.

The part about new forum users asking ridiculous questions & getting banned for it is an out&out lie. They were banned because theur arguments were too effective.

Exactly. No "valid questions" were at all answered, but were rather the subjects of flames from NQO-or-whatever "Super Guru" members and admins. That place makes OT look like a mensa forum:

bunch of snuffed up lamerz don't deserve the popularity they have,.. 10-1 i bet most of thier Hardware reviews are biased, i've noticed that they constantly compare games by the fps, without including quality levels... like wtf do you want.. a game that looks like crap or a game which looks and plays well,

anyways. all im doing is posting my response to this article,.. last time i read the lies and disrespectful journalism from that bunch of no brain lamerz

Anandtec, you just lost a reader, and your lucky NGOHQ doesn't take any steps further if they could...

and nemo.. hah. i didn't expect this at all... what a panzy assed mofo, thinks hes all good coz his spying helped some noob write an article up for anandtech

HAHAHAHA
you stupid mofo, don't you realise that the writer of the original article can sue for using that article without giving credit where its due

and the fact that ngo also has a copyright and disclaimer about the use of its own staff and user written media,.. ha ha ha,.. you stupid lovely human, i'll lead the lawsuit on your ass for breaching these privacy issues.

anandtec, deny it all you want. the fact that Regenerations article was released before yours is proof enough that only parts of that article were printed by you, and other parts were illegally copied from NGO's own article by your spy Nemo and put in the article by the dodgy truan,

you should be ashamed of yourselves and i'll be making sure to send messages to gamers everywhere to blacklist your site as the plaguerous bunch of immoral lamerz you are.

have a good day buttmonkeys

What kind of reviews do they do over there

Hmmm why would we need someone to spy on a website that is public?? You dont need to register to read reviews.

But wait i forgot i must be wrong because im part of the "plaguerous bunch" ;)

I'm not sure what's funnier, the fact that NGOHQ says they got the info first of the fact that I heard about this well over a month ago.

EDIT: BTW, I don't think they could prove anything unless it happened to be the same article word for word. Even then it would be tough to prove it was stolen from them. This is the internet people, the police don't exist on here.

I don't understand why it's all become such a hot topic, IMO NGOHQ are just trying to increase readership of their website. Using Link Popularity Check it appears that Anandtech is 96% more popular than NGOHQ! ;)
