Slap, Futuramatic: Arguing with NSF4 about racing is completely pointless. As someone pointed out in a previous thread, if it isn't cool in Road and Track or Car and Driver, it isn't cool with him. I've already tried to explain to him what great drivers the Winston Cup guys are, but since their not driving sports cars or F1 he doesn't want to listen. Don't even get me started about his crack on Sprint car racing, he's messing with my upbringing right there.

The fact of the matter is, if you are a great race car driver, you are a great race car driver in anything. You take the best from NASCAR and put them in good rides in Indy Cars, F1, sports cars, and they would win. Likewise, with the Indy Car, F1 and sports car guys.

Take a guy like Tony Stewart, he was awesome in Sprint Cars, Midgets, and Champ Dirt cars on dirt and pavement. Then he was great in IRL. Now that guy is awesome in NASCAR. He is just a great race car driver, whatever you put him in.

I was trying to take the young route. I don't think Rusty could do it. Martin probably could. I think Dale Sr. is a litle to old to try to make a change. You have to admit that he looked good at the end of the race today. I didn't think there was anyay he would even finish in the top 10.

<< If we're talking about that pansy Jeff Gordan, of course it's appropriate here >>

Now that was wrong. Futuramatic is going to let you have it. I will say Gordan has a good looking wife, but Teresa Earnhardt ain't to bad either.

Awww... NFS4, now why you gotta go and do that? We were having a spirited conversation here, and then you gotta go and be like that. Oh the corruption of today's youth :)

What the hell does that have to do with anything we are talking about? I don't think that production cars have been mentioned in this thread.

I have no qualms with their abilities, hell even the great Mario Andretti raced NASCAR, but he also did CART, F1, LeMans, etc. He is the greatest of all time IMHO. Not Earnhardt. Andretti is a man that can handle all kinds of racing.

Exactly! A great race car driver should be able to get in any car and after having a break in period be able to compete.

Out of all those, you see that he was least successful in NASCAR. I will agree that he is with out a doubt one of the greats.

Yeah, age would tend to work against you. Those guys you mentioned have the talent and ability to adapt as well as anyone.

NFS4- I don't know if Slap meant in all of racing or just NASCAR when he said Dale was the best. And yes, Mario is a racing God!! Foyt wasn't bad either.

Slap- Is there a NASCAR driver that has an UGLY wife? I can't think of any. And yes, both Teresa and Brooke are fine ladies.

I meant NASCAR because he hasn't really raced anything else, but in his sport he has been more dominant over the past 10-20 years than just about any ohter race car driver.

True, but NASCAR isn't the world. There are other forms of racing out there ;) It's cool to be the top of your game in just one form of racing, but Mario did it ALL!!! :) Can't say that for Earnhardt.

I think I heard somewhere that NASCAR is the #1 spectator sport in america. You wouldn't think it was. Anyway, I like Formula 1 better anyway.

You know the type of racing I like seeing? I like the road racing where they have several classes of cars on the track at once... anywhere from production to full out race. They run at Daytona... Damn if I don't remember what the series is called...

Sure thing. I just couldn't resist:p My dad loves Jeff Gordan (and Gordon is a great driver) and I actually *gasp* like Earnhardt...I used to like to watch NASCAR, but then as I found other forms of racing, NASCAR just seemed oddly boring.

Emmerson Fitapaldi and Al Unser junior are who turned me on to open wheel racing and away from the more "mundane" NASCAR.

Little Al, he can never hang with the NASCAR guys in IROC.

Hell yeah, now THAT's racing;) Much more fun to watch than either F1 or NASCAR IMHO. It's sorta like Lemans (which is my favorite form of racing). I love watching the protypes in Lemans creep up on the little Bimmers and 911's and then blast past them:D

Dale has been pretty dominant in NASCAR. But, I'd say the guy that has been the most dominant over the past 10-20 years in his form of racing would be Steve Kinser in the World of Outlaws sprint cars.

Mario was a great race car driver, he's driven damn near everything and won. Another guy that drove damn near everything and won is, of course, AJ Foyt. I met AJ Foyt one time in Sacramento at a USAC Silver Crown race, not the nicest guy in the world, but one hell of a race car driver.

NFS4,

Just curious as to if you are eager to see the new Sly Stalone movie about racing that is coming out? Can't remember the title.

Yeah Kinser is pretty dominant. I have seen him a few times here at the Memphis Motor Sports Park. Sprint cars are one the funnest things to watch. I don't see how NFS4 doesn't like them.

I'm not a big fan of Sly, but it has CART cars in it so I'm eager to see it;)

Slap: Yea Sprint cars are great. I grew up around them, with my dad racing sprint cars and midgets here in California for over 20 years. Great way to grow up by the way. I loved traveling all over the western US watching my dad race on Friday and Saturday nights. It was always cool to be able to tell the other kids that my dad was a race car driver. :)

It just doesn't interest me at all. I don't see the fun it either. Just b/c you all like it doesn't mean that I'll like it too:) Little short wheelbase cars flying and fishtailing around in the dirt just don't do it for me.

Now a Viper GTS and a Corvette C5R going head to head in the Amercian Lemans Series is another story. That's racing:)

Hey this is the first time one of my threads made the Today section. Thanks for the help NFS4.

I am not a big Sly fan either. I saw him on Letterman talking about the movie. He had promised Letterman that he would let him be in the movie since Letterman is such a huge race fan and team owner. Sly backed out though.

Yeah, that is the series NFS4. I like seeing the Camaros and Mustangs there. I like seeing all the cars, but the Camaros and Mustangs are my focus.

Yeppers, I like to see them all duke it out at Lemans. There is always alot of action going on...be it Mercedes CLR's doing back flips through the air, Porsche 911 GT1's catching on fire, or the recent flight of the prototype BMW:p
