It really doesn't matter what kind of engine you put in there. Something with as much torque and power as the VQ has would be too much to handle for the small Elise.

The Elise weighs about 1500 lbs, so the Toyota V6 is MORE than enough. The Toyota V6 makes between 192HP [Camry] and 220HP [Highlander]

I guess they haven't heard about the sludge.
Anyways, I think a Camry V6 is too heavy for a car like Elise and could have a negative effect on the handling, which is what sells Lotuses.
They should have put an SR20DET into it. Then it would be one hell of a car.

The article states a 2.5 liter engine, not the 3.0 here in the US.

Well if that's the case, then why is everyone screaming for a 3.0 liter VQ? Damn Nissan nuts ;)

Nissan makes 2.0 VQs and 2.5L VQs to be used in Europe and Japan. Well not sure about the VQ20DE since I might be confused, but they do make 2.5L VQs since they are most used in other parts of the world.

In my opinion, the Elise should have stuck with the Integra motor..or maybe a hybrid with the CRV block and B16 heads.

Well Colin Chapman once said: "To go faster, add lightness"

They should go for an all aluminum high-revving engine...since that kind of engine would suit the Elise the most.

Maybe a 4-cyl version of a LS1 that has a shorter stroke/bore...hmmm...

Go one step further... a little bigger... a little heavier but a lot more potential... a 3S-GTE... :D... that and the SR20DET... my favorite 4 bangers. :)

The only problem is that V6 is hardly known for its power delivery. The 4 banger in parents' 02 Camry is lethargic to say the least, and that's with a 5-speed! The V6 is not much better except for the extra power. I agree that there's plenty of power for the light Lotus, but the delivery is all wrong. An Elise with a Type-R motor is faster then the last Mustang Cobra R.

They should have used an NSX motor. :D

Anyone know anything more about the 2.5L Camry V6 (since it isn't the same as the V6 here in the states)?
I'm hoping it's aluminum block with VVTi... that would be perfect for it... light with good midrange punch. Actually, Toyota's 1.8L I4 would work well too, though it's also a torqueless wonder just like Honda's motors.

A 1.8L is currently in the Elise... I immediately think of VW's 1.8T... pick your turbo. Though midengine cars are harder to turbo properly.
