Newt is probably one of the best conservative voices in politics.
But he was so demonized by Democrats that he might have a hard time rising above that.
Then again if he goes up against a strong liberal it would result in a great election based on ideas.
Will be very interesting to see what happens with Newt, he says he won't run till the fall? He might be one of the few that can wait that long and still do it.
McCain, Giuliani, Newt and Romney, the big 4, after them everyone else doesn't really have a prayer.
Newt wasn't "demonized" by Democrats. His all out war style of politics worked pretty well in getting a Republican majority elected, but backfired on him during the shutdown the government debacle. So his downfall was self-inflicted.
My evaluation of him is, he's intelligent and creative on the one hand, he's narrow-minded, extremely partisan even though he tries not to be, and not a good listener on the other.
He's also grating and has no leadership ability, and has never demonstrated any ability to solve problems, unlike someone like Giuliani. He has some sense of humor, but it's derisive and mean-spirited, which appeals to the hateful wing of the Republican party, but not to anyone else. He would be a horrible president, and a horrible candidate.
