Newt Gingrich will be the next President.. Giuliani as VP.

And since he left before it went to hell he is not connected to the recent Republican congress. Being out of congress for 8+ years will help him I think.

Newt wasn't "demonized" by Democrats. His all out war style of politics worked pretty well in getting a Republican majority elected, but backfired on him during the shutdown the government debacle. So his downfall was self-inflicted.

My evaluation of him is, he's intelligent and creative on the one hand, he's narrow-minded, extremely partisan even though he tries not to be, and not a good listener on the other.

He's also grating and has no leadership ability, and has never demonstrated any ability to solve problems, unlike someone like Giuliani. He has some sense of humor, but it's derisive and mean-spirited, which appeals to the hateful wing of the Republican party, but not to anyone else. He would be a horrible president, and a horrible candidate.

Newts been a pretty mellow guy since he's been out of politics for the last several years. I loved his book, religion in america, learned some of the most amazing things about Washington, and especially Jefferson. Did you know Jefferson worshipped every Sunday in the Supreme Court room? they used to hold services there. Ironic that the courts would later be used to extract religion from the public square.

I think I have exactly the same odds of being our next President as Newt does. He is a bright guy but insufferably arrogant, and so misread the public's sentiment during the Clinton impeachment that it was he, not Clinton, who bore the brunt of the blowback that resulted.

Moreover, he has the dubious distinction of having served his first wife with divorce papers while she was in a hospital bed recovering from cancer surgery, then attempting to cut off her life insurance (he supposedly told his young daughter at the time that Mommy wasn't young or pretty enough to be the President's wife), and divorced his second wife after admitting (during a telephone conversation when he told her he wanted a divorce) to a prolonged affair with a Congressional aide 23 years his junior. The OP's ticket would have two candidates with a total of three embarrassing, highly public divorces, presumably not endearing them to the religious right (though, as a neat parallel, our current President and Veep have three DUI convictions among them, and it hasn't slowed them down appreciably).

Giuliani also married his 2nd cousin and eventually got an annullment from that marriage because of that. I think what will sink Giuliani more than anything is the drip drip news stories of his business dealings after 9-11. Giuliani made a lot of money in many different kinds of businesses which have yet to be fully vetted.

I think Nwt's a bright guy who comes up with many interesting ideas for solutions to problems. Prolly the most "think outside the box" person in politics ATM.

But I think he has no chance to get elected. I dunno but I see him having a lot of difficulty getting the women's vote.

Newt vs HRC. An interesting thought. The most hated Repub vs the most hated Dem. I would think that those two have the highest (and firmest) negative numbers of anybody. What a contentious election that would be!

But I don't see it happening. I don't see either making it past the primary.

I still say Edwards/Obama is the wining ticket, even though I won't vote for it.
