Newt Gingrich calling Paul Ryan's Medicare Plan too radical?!!

Now I'm no Pawlenty fan but...

When a Republican takes federal money and disagrees with it like Ron Paul he's a hypocrite, but when a Republican doesn't take federal money because he disagrees with it like he's costing his state money?

Apparently in your world, the only good politician is one who gets as much money for his own purposes as possible and loves doing it.

Squeal like a pig!

He did cost his state money to make himself more appealing to teabaggers. And if he's running on his record as governor of Minnesota, and he's going against Minnesota's interests to promote his own political chances, why wouldn't he go against American interests for his own ends if elected President?

Got a sick feeling the repubs will manage to fuck themselves giving us another 4 years of hoping for change.

Newt was right, there is some radical shit in that Ryan budget. The stuff about medicare will be a holocaust. Sort of bizarre seeing Newt get routed out of his campaign by Republicans. The right wing is mad with loons.

Jon Stewart had a good comment on this last night. Something to the effect of Newt is saying that "Any ad that uses video of me and quotes me directly in context, is lying". Funny thing is, when Newt said this it brought him appeal to the center. It gave him a chance in the general election. But it guaranteed him no chance in the primary. The Republican party has moved so far right now it's ridiculous. When the Republicans look to the left horizon they see what they call socialism, but what they're actually seeing is what 20 years ago was called the far right. It's downright scary that when Newt makes a mildly centrist statement he's attacked viciously by the Republican base. May this party never get total power again.

Newt gingrich is NOT a conservative. This is what many people don't understand. Enough people and the media say Newt is a conservative, so people believe it. It is absolutely not true.
He's a republican.

Simply being a partisan doesn't make him a conservative. Newt doesn't want to shrink big government, he just thinks he can run big government better than democrats.

Ryan's plan is bolder than most, but it doesn't even go far enough. Most true conservatives would admit this. Newt calling this plan radical is classic Gingrich.

Newt always takes the side of big government. He supported TARP, medicare part D, the individual healthcare mandate, thinks no child left behind should be expanded, and a slew of other big government policies. Gingrich's 2012 platforms is simply that he's not a democrat. That he's not president Obama.

"The fact is we are not going to close the deficit and move towards a balanced budget unless we follow the policies that foster the economic growth necessary to create jobs..." - Newt

Gingrich wants to balance the budget not by reducing government spending, but increasing tax revenues. In other words, Gingrich sees no problem with the current size of government.

Gingrich is nothing but a technocrat who thinks he can manage big government in a better "business-like" way than Obama and democrats. This is the exact opposite of what constitutional conservatism is.

I'm glad to see his 2012 campaign going up in flames. Gingrich is no conservative. Hopefully this latest incident will finally awaken people from this chronic delusion.

The biggest problem with what Newt said is most people believe it including most of Tea Partiers. The overwelming majority of the American people are against the Ryan budget plan.

Newt is a perfect example of why the current GOP is fucked going forward. To win a primary in the party increasingly requires a platform completely incompatible with winning a general election.

Yep, so much for trying to appeal to the moderate independants. The teabaggers are so hell bent on taking over the Republicon party that they are going to make their party into a new minority third party. I just wonder where the moderate Republicons are going to go.

I recently heard Gingrich called the "Sixth Sense Candidate" - he's dead but doesn't know it. 😉

For his sake, a presidential primary run better be a lot like college football - where a loss in the begining of the season won't much hurt your chances to win the National Championship.

BTW: Contrary to a lot assertions here, I don't think we know what the Repub base thinks about Gingrich's remarks; we haven't heard from them yet. Their view will show up in polls.

It doesn't matter what the Republican base thinks with congressional Republicans throwing him under the bus and big money donors dropping him like a hot potato. Plus with the way he caved and backtracked from his initial comments he just comes off as weak and shallow whether you agreed with him or not. Newt's done.

Newt is an embarrassment to the GOP and no true Conservative should even consider supporting him. Other than Paul, who has a snowballs chance in hell, the only viable candidate for the GOP in 2012 is Col Allen West who at this point isn't even going to run. Go West!

Isn't he the retired Colonel who thinks he has a higher security clearance than the POTUS?

He clarified that statement when called on it stating that based on Obamas admitted drug use and his associations with Farrakhan and Wright he would not have been given clearance.

They tried to make that an issue during the election and it failed miserably.

QFT.

The Ryan budget? The stupidest thing they've done in decades... well, other than maybe Terri Schiavo. Medicare vouchers that grow with the rate of inflation, which is far lower than the rate of increase in medical care, and an end to capital gains taxes when most americans support raising taxes at the top... and when any sane person realizes that we can't, won't, approach fiscal integrity on the basis of cuts alone.

It's like an inept toreador who lets the bull see the sword before it's too late...

The freshman HOR Teas are already whining about the attacks they're suffering from-

Who cares what newt says? Guy is total scumbag in my book screwing around on wife while she's in hosp with cancer. I basically wouldn't trust him to run a cash register let alone the country.

It didn't actually fail miserably since the highest levels of security clearance are given all the time to people who have used illegal drugs. It's actually explicitly stated on many federal gov't web sites, including the FBI. This is common knowledge among non-tards.

He was elected hence it failed. And it wasn't just the drug use it's also about his admitted questionable associations which you seemed to leave out. And dude, drop the name calling, no reason to revert to middle school debate when you disagree with someone.

Huh? What failed?

There is no universe in which "questionable associations" denies you a security clearance unless there's actual evidence you support some sort of aggression against the U.S. gov't. Doesn't really make sense to deny someone security clearance if their grandpa used to be part of an anarchist group.

And dude, drop the name calling, no reason to revert to middle school debate when you disagree with someone.

Fair enough.

Representative West was also the idiot who appointed Joyce Kaufman his Chief of Staff, right? If President Obama has "questionable associations", I think "If ballots don't work, bullets will" Kaufman trumps them all!
