WTF happened to Newt? I can honestly say I don't pay attention too much anymore to politicians but wasn't this guy as right wing as they come?
Newt's problem is he's too intelligent for the modern Republican party, and he's arrogant enough to think he's allowed to think for himself instead of sticking to the script. Newt accidentally took a reasoned and moderate position, and was promptly crucified by the lunatic fringe leading the RNC.

He literally shat on the face of the Republican party, it will be played over and over again all through the next campaign. His presidential bid and his political career as we know it, IS OVER

Newt realized that it would be political suicide to talk about or trying to destroy Medicare to save money for tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals and corporations. Got smacked for saying it out loud and apologized!

Boy, this federal election cycle is going to be interesting!

He got too rational too soon. He needs to play the tea party nutter game until the general elections where he can toss em aside.

Well, the GOP is a total mess...the IMO the only viable candidate is Mitt Romney because he is a moderate...the new GOP is catering to extreme right wing...

What positions does Romney hold that you consider to be moderate?

This is the same Newt that go blasted by Democrats for pushing a private insurance plan for Medicare during the Clinton years.

Perhaps what we saw was in response to that more than anything else.

It is going to be Tim Pawlenty or Mitch Daniels.

Both successful governors of middle of the road states. Both have good fiscal records and neither of them are hard right wingers.

Amazing that somebody as politically astute as Newt would absolutely self destruct like that when his campaign was barely a week old.

I despise Newt-I think he has absolutely no moral code-but he does have a brain. I totally agree with what he said and I think any rational person-regardless of political stripe-would agree.

The real story isn't so much what Newt said...

...but the republican response.

Newt Gingrich doesn't like fiscal conservatism, because he supported a Democrat against Ron Paul in 96. Fortunately, the people of TX's 14th District didn't listen to Newt.

F*** Newt Gingrich 2x as much as the average joe.

Calling Paul Ryan's liberal budget plan "too radical" has got to be the dumbest statement of the year. Paul Ryan's budget plan doesn't cut jack dempsey shit.

Trust me, any number of things you have said would beat that out for the dumbest statement of the year.

How much money did this demagogue cost Minnesota to promote his political standing?

Now I'm no Pawlenty fan but...

When a Republican takes federal money and disagrees with it like Ron Paul he's a hypocrite, but when a Republican doesn't take federal money because he disagrees with it like he's costing his state money?

Apparently in your world, the only good politician is one who gets as much money for his own purposes as possible and loves doing it.

Squeal like a pig!
