I wonder what would happen if a woman sent that email to someone like Rush Limbaugh? She seems to be being unfairly criticized.

I have no doubt that he gets such comments all the time...even vehemently hateful ones. He just doesn't whine to the public about it.

Sorry - but I don't buy the 'Its difficult, especially with a desk job'. I have a desk job and, if I didn't make the effort to get up and walk around, I would not need to use my legs for 9 hours straight. Yet here I sit - having lost a considerable amount of weight. There is not some super secret magical formula for losing weight. Consume less calories than you burn. Thats it. If its important you can find the time or change the way you eat. It's just not important enough to her to make the effort to change her lifestyle

Its not like someone is there, shoving candy bars down her throat - these are eating decisions she has made.

Completely agree. My wife and I knew we were overweight but we didn't realize how much until we came across a picture of us when we were younger. It was so slow we didn't notice we had gotten that fat

You're right. It's easy. I didn't have to do 1am workouts with having to go to work the next day because the kids had a soccer game that ended late. I didn't have to eat off of a salad plate and skip my favorite foods over the holidays. I didn't have to eat a chicken breast at the family's BBQ restaurant bash. I didn't have to be so tired I can't keep my eyes open yet force myself to get 50 pushups and three sets of a lifting rotation in after I put dinner for the family in the oven.

People are fat because of our new 24/7 lifestyles...and it is NOT easy to keep trim despite what many may think. If it were, we'd all be fit and healthy. In the old days, you would work 9-5, come home, and do whatever you wanted until bed time.

Today you work 8-6, fit a couple of activities in before eating, run to the store because it's now open until 11pm, attend all the kids activities to "show you're a good parent", come home and stay up until 1am because all the good TV shows are on or the Internet is beckoning you...we're all too exhausted to but any extra effort into health. Some people's lives are just not compatible with staying thin. I've forced myself to do it, I hate it, and I constantly think about it, which I'm not sure is healthy either. I can definitely see why some people just simply can't do it.

she needs to lose weight and she is morbidly obese.

this "don't hurt my feelings - I am perfect the way I am" nonsense needs to end. Too many people cry bully! when confronted by the truth. Criticism should lead to understanding of ones failings and then to self-improvement, instead it is an excuse to feel sorry for ones self.

She needs to deal with this issue. It should have been a teachable moment about the obesity epidemic, instead she chose it to be about her hurt feelings.

I have been seeing too much "self-esteem is more important than anything else" idiocy lately. Teachers can't give zero grades for work not completed or incomplete because it could affect students' self-esteem, teachers can't fail a student because of hurt feelings, competitions rigged so that everyone wins, etc...

Its all about priorities. My priority is my health, not my favorite foods, watching TV or aimlessly surfing the internet. I understand that health might not be everybody else's priority so its more of a challenge for them to remain healthy. But, if I'm not healthy it means I can't take care of the other people in my life, so I prioritize 1 hour per day (4.1% of the day) to drive to the gym, work out, and shower. Best ROI I've ever received.

People (myself included!) are fat because they eat (lots of) garbage and don't exercise - and whatever excuse is being used to justify that is simply an excuse.

As for the food issue - I don't smoke so I have no issues saying no to a cigarette. I don't eat garbage food, so I have no issue saying no to that either. And if there isn't any, I will not eat, eat prior to the event, or bring my own food.

First, my statement of "wtf" was about his
statement.
Second, that's not morbidly obese.

Meh, she has potential to be cute. I wouldn't literally have sex with her as I am pretty fit and like curvy but not morbidly obese.

And yes, I'm willing to bet her BMI is around 40.

On the one hand I feel bad for the obie being picked on. But on the other hand, I have little respect for people who let themselves go like that. Please save the genes and health excuses. It only happens in America.

If more people would just make fun of fat people openly and shun them, we wouldn't have this problem. Fat asses have this idea now that it's okay to be a giant cow. No, it is not okay and you should be ashamed of yourself.

I wouldn't classify her as morbidly obese, overweight certainly. A better example of that can be found on the people of walmart site.

I'm guessing within 20ish years fatties will be a protected class. I dont think this is bullying. But it was a rude email. And nobody had to know about it until she plastered it across the internet.

She's upset about the email hurt her feelings, but I wonder how many news stories herself or her coworkers have done about teens and their weight issues. I know our locals love to do camera shots of teens from the neck down with their oversized stomachs and butts; I wonder what that does for their esteem if that's the angle she wants to go for.

Sorry Fritzo, I respectfully disagree. I'll bet people (not her specifically) waste more time on Facebook or getting their daily coffee versus exercising for 20-30mins 3-5x per week.

It certainly is a lifestyle change, not a quick "diet" and it is really hard saying no to certain foods or alcohol or dessert, but if you want something bad enough you do it. I used to be 5-10, 250-260 but now I'm down <200 and can't imagine a day without going to the gym. Even on vacation. And I'm 30, work full time at a desk job, have an active social life, girlfriend, volunteer, etc - my days are packed. The only thing I can't relate to is caring for children (yet).

Additionally, I think that she _can't_ see just how she really looks. It's like when somebody is losing their hair and they try and cut and style it the same. They don't notice it because its a slow process and they see it every day - its not till somebody goes "dude, you're bald" that they realize. People need cold harsh doses of reality. (I take the same viewpoint on everybody getting a trophy no matter how terrible the team is).

Bottom line is, people need to find what works for them to get and stay healthy. They have to prioritize it over TV and surfing the net and other non-value added activities. For me its waking up at 3:45am and going to the gym before work.

I so agree with this. I lost over 75 pounds years ago because I stopped sitting there and worked at it. If you have some odd medical condition that stops you from exercising that's one thing, but it's another to sit there and claim you're too busy to work at it. 98 times out of 100 it's not too busy, it's too lazy.

As for the post itself, as pointed out, the person emailed her about it. She and her husband made it public so we can have a whole “OMG it’s OK to be fat, stop bullying” crap. While I personally could care less if she lives or dies let alone how much weight she carries, I don’t support the idea that you can’t tell someone anything about them because if it hurts their feelings it's now bullying.

People are fat because of our new 24/7 lifestyles

And yet half of your examples involved making better food choices - not anything to do with a 24/7 lifestyle. Furthermore - you don't have to work out to lose weight. It only affects one part of the equation. Calories In < Calories burned = weight loss. Too lazy or too good at making up stupid excuses? Eat fewer calories. This is not a hard equation to figure out.

come home and stay up until 1am because all the good TV shows are on or the Internet is beckoning you...we're all too exhausted to but any extra effort into health.

Wow - so your way of reasoning out of it is that there are good TV shows and the Internet? I can't exercise because I am too busy sitting on my ass at the computer or watching TV? If someone really thinks TV and Internet is more important than their health then it really wouldn't be a surprise if they were overweight

404 Bullying not found

Is any form of criticism now considered bullying?

Bad review of a shitty movie? The director can have them arrested for bullying.

Americans are some of the most thin skinned pussies on the planet, right alongside Muslims.

Complain about bad service at a restaurant? Bullying.

Yes, didn't you get the memo?
