News anchor responds to viewer's letter about her weight

i think she's taking the email the wrong way. sucks that she got offended, but i don't think it was the intent of the person who sent the email. he wasn't being a bully. he was pointing out that obesity is an issue that needs to be dealt with and, as a public figure, it might behoove her to start taking care of herself. was it inappropriate? yeah. you don't tell a person you don't know they're fat. but i don't think he was doing it out of cruelness.

"I have very thick skin, literally, as that email pointed out"

LMAO. Kudos to her, but yeah, she could stand to lose 50

Yah, the email doesn't strike me as bullying. Critical, but not bullying.

Plus it wasn't even a public email either until she made it public.

she just publicly made it seem like it's ok to be fat and it kinda isn't. it greatly affects the cost of healthcare in this country.

what she should have done was pick up the gauntlet and accept the challenge to lose weight, publicly, and invited everyone else who is in her shoes to do the same and make it a weekly challenge. the person who loses the most weight and has the best before and after pictures since the start of the contest wins a prize from the news station.

The letter could have been written in a better way (or probably not written at all), and she's right that he has no knowledge whatsoever about her particular situation. BUT, based on the contents I don't see it as an example of bullying at all. It's more like unwanted criticism, which I'm sure all public figures get on a regular basis.

yup

Agreed but we seem to have gone overboard with anti-bullying to the point where unwanted criticism, or anything else that might hurt out feelings cannot be tolerated. Classifying that as bullying seems like an unneeded attention grab and an attempt to gather emotional support to make you feel better about yourself

Edit: Just look at the Youtube comments. Emotional trolling at its finest. Powerful? Inspiring? A true roll model? Taking a stand against hate? Hero? Best thing on the internet. Riiiight

Oh please that is not a bullying e-mail. She's creating a situation out of nothing. He didn't post that on a message board or anything he was putting criticism to her. Which I can say I may agree with him. He didn't call her any names...

Fucking fatties. Get the fuck off TV if you don't want people judging you for your weight. And stop being an attention whore by crying over the big meanie that hurt your feelings in front of millions of people.

1 in 4 Americans are too fat to join the army.
Obesity related health issues with servicemen and family cost the military $1 billion yearly.
Morbidly obese people make up 6.6% of our population (yes, this woman is morbidly obese.)
2 in 3 people are overweight, and no, you are not a fucking athlete. Go get your fat percentage tested and then you can tell me you are muscle.

She needs to lose weight, not because of her role on TV, but because she is going to die an early death and she is going to cost us a lot of money while she does it.

Still, I'd probably hit it.
