the main problem with this sort of brazen criminality is that with so many instances you have to put together a massive prosecution investigation to demonstrate a systemic pattern of criminal intent to refute any claims of clerical error by some staff member.

so it takes a year or two to resolve out, in which time santos' mere presence in congress flouts the rule of law eroding confidence in the system, similar to the giant orange turd.

It's possible - given the donors seem to be fake and the listed expenditures also look very questionable. But _if_ that was the case, it surely would mean it was a disaster for him when he actually won the election (and thus drew real attention). Which would mean his error was to seriously underestimate how dumb the voters are.

The laws WERE very solid (and bipartisan, the McCain-Feingold Act was the modern bedrock) until it ran into a one-two punch. First, the partisan "Supreme" Court decimated them and secondly, the GOP members appointed to the FEC for years now have are extremely opposed to the purpose of the FEC and have deadlocked everything and absolutely refused to ever over after and GOP violator.

Don't blame the institutions or the law when the source and implementation of the problem is absolutely due to a party gone off the deep end. We are own worst enemies, the collapse of the USA is internally driven under the guise of MAGA.
