Ok, just got a video card from Newegg. The video card is in its retail box and is still wrapped in the shrinkwrap. However, on the front of the box, it looks as if someone took one of those knives that people use to open packages with (you know those knives with the short, retractable blades) and ran it down the front left side of the box.

Last time I ordered a small PC case from them (about a week ago), the top of the case's box also had a similar cut.

Anyone notice this from items you've received from Newegg?

He'll fix you up. One thing Newegg doesn't want to f**k with is Anandtech customers.

If we all brood amongst eachother they will lose upwards of 100k in 1 year.

Does the product work? I don't know how far you'll get by complaining about a gash on the retail box since there's nothing to fix unless you want a new box. But you can give it a try since you're not happy with it.

I think that happens when they open up shipment a little carelessly and then boxes on top get cut. I know I see it a lot at Fry's.

Yeah, I probably should try it first. :p

Anyway that's what I was thinking too. That these two items I received (this video card I got today and the small pc case I ordered before) were at the top of the bulk shipping box that Newegg received and that their stockers' package-opening knives just cut my items' boxes when they were opening the shipping box.

Stupid Newegg.

put anger and boycott in your name, they usually flock here!

I remember when there were 2 pissed threads and he came on to soothe our fears, now look at him eating cookies and ignoring us.

I say we lead a movement to boycott fries and newegg, this is CRAP. They do it all the time

Does it really make a difference if the box is gashed? It might not have even been NewEgg's fault. As long as the contents are in tip-top shape, who cares?

I can imagine it's a little annoying, but just let it go. NewEgg's great. Please don't hassle them over something insignificant.

Before xmas I bought a viewsonic lcd monitor from the egg for my son. When I received it the box was ok except that it did not have any type of security tape on it. Anybody who handled the box could've just opened it right up and taken anything from inside of it because there was no way to tell. I posted in customer comments on their site and found that I was not the only person to experience that. I've spent a lot of money at the egg over the past few years and they've always been good to me but that was on the edge of inexcusable.

Hey IsLNdbOi,

We apologize for the condition that your product box was received in. We hope that after your initial tests the product is working properly. Please be sure to let us know if there are any defects or damage and we will be happy to offer our assistance.

If you would like to provide us with your Sales Order number (SO#) we would like to make sure that this is an isolated issue.

The knife slashes are likely due to the shipper being lazy about removing a stack of boxes shrink wrapped together to a palette.

I would tend to doubt this is NewEgg's fault, but they should look into given I've seen the same problem with my numerous orders from time to time.

Still, I've done well in excess of $10,000 woth of purchases from NewEgg, and on a scale of 1-10 I'd rate them an 11. Given all the internet companies out there looking to rip you off, these guys deserve a standing ovation.

That's being conservative, being that I spend at least 10k/yr. on the 'Egg.

Well then between you and me we have 1/3 to 1/2 of that number then since I spend $2-4k per month easy there. :)

Edit $24-48k/yr. for those that can't do math. ;)
