Newegg's hard drive packaging

Complete and utter crap packaging from Newegg lately. I just recieved a box with 2PSU's, 3 DVD drives, 2 retail CPU's and a windows server 2003 and there was no filler other than a folded up piece of kraft paper. The boxes were bouncing around and all of them are banged up. I'd say about 35% of the box was nothing but air.

I order a LOT of stuff from Newegg (over $160,000 in the last 5 years) and their packaging quality has been going down steadily for the past year now while their shipping prices have gone up tremendously. Recently I have been pricing items at CDW and they are actually very competitive with Newegg on a lot of components. Their packaging is also 1000% better. As an example I ordered 2 oem hard drives and 4 sticks of ram from CDW. the hard drives came boxed in their own 6x8x10 boxes suspended by a plastic shell inside each box. 2 of these boxes came packaged together and the ram was shipped in a bubble mailer packed inside a big box filled with bubble wrap. all of this was shipped ups ground and arrived in 1 day for less than I could buy it at Newegg.

Newegg really needs to hear this and know that their shipping prices may not be something they can lower due to fuel costs and related charges now but they need to be damned sure they keep their packaging up to professional levels to go along with these increased prices. Already my money is being spent elsewhere and more of it will continue to do so if they don't change their practices.

Totally inadequate packaging. Put it this way - if you packaged a RMA like they package new drives most manufacturers would REJECT it. Bare drive in static bag thrown in a box full of peanuts is NOT adequate packaging for shipment!
This is my experience with Newegg OEM drives.

I don't order HD's from them any more.

Mine was packaged with a think layer of bubble wrap and pack with peanuts. This was from the California warehouse.

and yes it was an OEM drive. one of the warehouses is definitely slacking. Helps if everyone posts which warehouse they got their drive from

Find a good rep with CDW - mine always matches newegg pricing and gives us killer deals on shipping. Stuff is ALWAYS packed well, and the customer service is fantastic.

CDW FTW if you buy enough to open an account or whatever

I've received numerous drives from newegg/TN packaged as above. I've never had a damaged product due to packaging from newegg. Some of the packaging lately is getting comical though. For example, I recently received a product in a box that was three times the necessary size but had the requisite filler. The laughable part is that the packer put the product in and then the filler so the product was rubbing against the box on one side.

I speculate that in the last year there has been much frustration about hard drive failures which might actually be attributable to the hd manufacturers.

They shipped my printer just in the box, stuck a shipping label and shipped it. I don't have a problem with it but that's the closest to "Suspect" I've had with their shipping.

My Hard drive i ordered in December (along with a full computer) was wrapped in bubble wrap several times (same with memory) and all placed in a box filled with peanuts, and than paper. If anything it was sorta ridiculous.

I bought memory and a box of screws - and they wrapped the memory in bubble wrap, stuck it in a box, and filled it with peanuts.

If anything I get too much packaging from them personally. (Not that I'm complaining since I just chuck it and would rather get over protected than under protected)

I have a rep who has been giving me better pricing than the cdw website. Are you telling your rep what the newegg price is or are they just quoting you better pricing. I hadn't tried to "price match" newegg with my rep.

I have received some shoddy packaging from Newegg on OEM items. Retail items of course come in their own packaging.

crap packaging here. i even sent them an email once and they thanked me for letting them know. obviously didnt do shit

I just received 2 more boxes from Newegg. 3 motherboards, 1 box of ram, 1 retail cpu and 2 oem windows disks all thrown in the bottom of one box with a bunch of peanuts on top. I happen to open the bottom Where there was no cushioning at all and there was a good 3 inches of space from the top of the box to the top of the motherboard boxes.

The other box had 4 hard drives in a styrofoam case(oem drives) wrapped in bubble wrap and put in the bottom of the box with peanuts on top. at least this one was still full to the top with peanuts but thats because the drives aren't heavy enough to compress them that much. Still there was nothing but the bubble wrap protecting them on one side on the bottom of the box.

First box was out of NJ and the HD's were from CA
