This is an unapologetic Newegg rant.
I posted this first part on another forum awhile back.
"I used to purchase from Newegg, but no more.
Over 4 years times, I had my CC "compromised" 6 times due to "online sales" or so Visa notifies me and then changes the CC number.
Talk about a real pain, especially for auto-pays.
The CC company would only say "online sales" after much cajoling, threatening, and up-scaling.
They would never tell me who got breached ("customer confidentiality", like what I am I, chopped liver? I thought I was the customer that was harmed.
But after the sixth time (yeah, I'm slow) when I went back and checked my records, my CC was always "compromised" (Visa's term) within 1 day of a Newegg purchase.
I complained to Newegg, but of course they said they were never breached.
The only funny part of this whole affair was that while I was on the phone to Newegg and they were looking at and verifying the account I was complaining about, I got an email confirming my latest purchase from them, along with the name and shipping address for the goods to a girl in Cali. (I'm in Fl.).
They canceled the purchase, but still insisted the problem couldn't possibly be on their end.
I eliminated all Newegg purchases and have had no problems with my CC since, 18 months and counting.
It all may have been a coincidence, but coincidently, I'm doing just fine without Newegg."
Fast forward to today - I went to Ebay to purchase the breakfast sandwich maker the wife wanted (they actually had cheaper sellers than Amazon). Turned out Newegg had the best price, but I thought, hey no problem, I am paying with PayPal, so Newegg won't be handling my CC.
13 minutes after the confirmed purchase I get a notice that Newegg is cancelling the purchase because it is shipping to an unconfirmed address.
WTF - it is shipping to my PayPal confirmed address. So I call Newegg to find out what is going on.
They say that the address I'm shipping to is not the same as the billing address for my CC (my CC is the primary bill-to on my PayPal account).
I told them I didn't pay NewEgg with my CC, I payed them with PayPal, so they had no business messing around with my CC, just ship to the confirmed address PayPal sent them, PayPal has no problem with my address or CC or they would not have approved the sale. (PayPal has both my billing address and shipping address (both confirmed) and I've never had one problem because of it)
They insisted that since I used my CC with PayPal they had to confirm the shipping address as the same as the billing address. Since my PayPal account has been this way 2001 and no one has ever had a problem with shipping to my PayPal confirmed address, I called BS. I was told the problem would have to be transferred to the security verification dept..
"OK, transfer me, I want to get to the bottom of this".
"Sorry, I'll transfer this now, but it looks like they won't be able to call you back for at least 3 hrs."
"Forget it, I buy it somewhere else."
I did, I got confirmation of the purchase from another large Ebay vendor and a tracking # within 6min. FedEx confirmed receiving the package and gave me an estimated delivery date 6hrs. after the purchase.
Screw Newegg, I'm betting since they had access to my CC info, I'll be getting another "your credit card may have been compromised and we are changing your account number" notice soon
Ranting and venting are over, thanks
