I have been wandering this for some time now. A few months ago newegg said they put a warehouse, or something in TN. Now everytime I order something from TN why doesn't it ship from TN? I live in Jackson, which is like an hour away from Memphis, which is home to the Fedex Headquarters. I think the warehouse might be there, because they ship everything fedex. But why do i get charged sales tax, even when my shipments come from NJ or CA? Thanks

They have a warehouse there, and as a result, a point of presence, and are required to charge sales tax as a result, reguardless of where it actually ships from.

i think it matters where you place the order from, not where it ships from. if they have a warehouse in that state, then they are a business, and you have to pay taxes. at least, thats how i understand it.

yes it's if you order from within a state that has a store/warehouse presence, you gotta pay the tax.

I do wonder - if billing/shipping are different states... do they charge based on _____ ?

I am glad that not many companies have warehouses in Virginia. I think that's the only good thing about this state, everything else blows :)

Sales tax is a state tax, on top of federal income taxes (20%-40% depending on your bracket), state income taxes, state property taxes and other stuff.

Yup x 2

Funny thing is that once you are over in Europe you stop thinking about it since the tax is included in the prices. Until it's time to leave and you get the nice big refund back:)

Well I'm sure they get a heck of a lot of government services for all those taxes. So instead of paying lower sales and income taxes and then having to pay for everything else, they pay high sales and income taxes and the government provides a lot for them. I prefer our system, but comparing their taxes to ours is like comparing apples to gatorade.

It's not always fun to see the different prices.......seeing the cheapest GF6800 Ultra going for $688 in Denmark.

Our sales tax is 9.75%. Pretty high if you ask me. I just want to know if anyone ever gets something from TN. Because I have ordered alot in the last six months sinnce they say they "opened" the warehouse and haven't had one shipment come from there. Same for a few of my friends from different states. Do ya'll think they ship from different places depending on what you order?

yeah. I hate having to pay tax just because I live in NJ... if I'm ordering really expensive stuff, I have it shipped to my friend who lives in NY (a 15 minute drive away).

Yeah I feel for the residents of Madison county, with that 9.75% - its bad enough everwhere else it the state with 9.25%. I believe NewEgg uses Ingram Micro, and since they have a presence here in TN, then we must suffer :(
