newbie problem....

Ive tried alot of clients on many speeds of machine. While i also dont think SETI is worth my computing time i have found it to run well on the speed of machine you have. Distributed Folding would be a good choice as would F@H. i have even run D2OL on a 233 P2 with good stability, although slow, you can do other things. As far as your Win98 Service question. Most will run in the system tray but Win98 doesnt work like Win2K or XP. If youre that concerned about permissions and running it as a service, then install Win2k in that machine and increase the overall stability of it anyway 🙂 Ive done a few covert installs on work and school systems behind the backs of the IT department in my time.

And backing to services & permission...
I have permission from my teacher & headmaster, but some students.. they are stupid, nothning more that... so they will turn it off.. so i need to remove this from system tray & no window open...
I won't install Win 2k, or you will buy it for me.. I have no licence for it 😛
So now I am running at school SoB - propably will ask some other students to run it at other computers...
But it is really slow - anyone will works faster ??

You think that 25% in 30minutes is slow???
From what I read you're not really into this "DC" thing, are you?
There aren't much projects which completes a so called work unit in a few ours.
Things like RC5 used to, but I don't know anything about the newer version of it (RC5 is already stopped)
But then again, if the pc is shut down, the current progress is being saved and will be continued on next boot. If installed as a service!
So I don't know what you are looking for exists because if a project only takes a few ours to complete, people with dialin connections can't run those projects without buffer tools etc.
An a PII233 ~PII333 aren't fast machines so even "fast" projects will stil be slow on those machines..
And you do not have to talk like that about Seti. 90% of the people here are, of have been, using this program so you should speak a bit more normal about it. Fine that you don't like it's cause, but don't react like that!
And then again, I assume you are a system administrator at your school? If not, you shouldn't run any DC projects on any pc that you are not working on without permissions of the system administrators..

Please, I have headahe.
But on my lovley Athlon 1 GHz, one unit of SoB takes about 50 minutes, and D2OL sometimes complete one in 30-60 minutes !!

Problem with school - no, I am not an administrator, but my teacher is. And he allow me to install DC !!

Attacking Seti - sorry to any of members that get it as my attack on it. I really don't see any sense to run it. Better run something that will allow us find a cure to cancer, than to find something, that doesn't even exist !! But if someone wants to participe seti, it is OK too. At least as he or she is in our TeAm !!

Team Anandtech does not condone illegal installs of DC projects ,even when it would be in TAs short term advantage.
Aside from S@H rules stating this , this site also shows you an additional reason we say this.

First of all, i live in Poland, not US. there aren't any adds in our law about DC projects !!

And I have agree of my informatic teacher and headmaster of school !! what else I need is that comp's are school comps ?!

As I see the stats when I back at homre, that comps at school (2 - but on one it wasn't working propertly) bakced 1 WU. It isn't good, but better than nothing..
But if G@H runs as service, to stop my friends turning it off, I will propably run it... if someone could send me at my email (ta_mori@wp.pl) info about this program, i will be thankful !!

The S@H rules are not country specific ,its part of the agreement to run it ,seeing as you won't be it doesn't matter😉
I don't live in the US either😛

Like I already said further up ,few people run it around here,start a new thread asking for G@H information & I'm sure you'll get some people helping you🙂
