New York to Get Pummeled by Huge Hurricane. Do You Feel Bad for Them?

Heh. Local news are reporting that it will be a tropical storm by the time it hits New York. Mandatory evacuations are still in effect.

Fucking fear mongering at it's best.

It isn't like 20+ hours of rain and 50mph winds ever did damage. Where will that water go when the ground is already full ?

Agreed.

To the rest of ya,

Just because we don't experience hurricanes doesn't mean we're assholes or "didn't prepare." Why didn't we prepare? Because we never fucking get them.

Why do Californians shake off earthquakes like they're nothing? They're used to them. Why do Floridians not care as much as us regarding the hurricane? Because they're used to them.

Don't badmouth NYC because we're "unprepared." Stop being so narrow minded and have some concern for your follow man.

I'd like to see you handle a few feet of snow in a couple of hours. Some Californians act like it's the end of the world when the temperature drops below 60.

well said my fellow NY'er I think it OP has his head up his Ars.

PS: I am ready for the storm. I hope you are as well.

We've had long periods of rain before. Other estimates are saying 5-7" of rain. That isn't really much. The sewer system here is pretty good.

While 9/11 was extremely bad especially considering it was a terrorist attack and not an act of nature, I can't help but imagine how many times worse it will be if the hurricane does hit, and in full force. That's just unimaginable amounts of rubble and destruction. All those buildings are like giant sails. Stay safe people.

umm....no.

It's called being cautious. There is a significant (in this case, anything >1% is significant) that it could strengthen & NYC take a direct hit. Even a Cat 1 hurricane with the size that this thing is can put a LOT of water into the streets and lower lying areas.

Let's suppose that like other hurricanes, it suddenly starts strengthening during the last 12 hours before it makes landfall. If you were mayor/governor, what would you do? "Sorry folks, we realize that there's no way to evacuate that many of you in this little time. We were wrong. Oh well." Regardless of what category this storm is, it's a huge storm.

Hurricane Ike made landfall as a Cat 2 storm - it's the 3rd costliest hurricane in US history. Cat 2. Cat 2. Not Cat 5, Cat 2. Got that?

Yeah, but here in NY they cry wolf about every single thing. Look at that "Earthquake" we just had. You'd think it was a magnitude 9 by the way these news stations overreacted.

New estimates are saying 3-5 inches of rain when everything is all said and done. Only certain areas in Long Island may be hit with flood waters; which is nothing unusual for them.

Of course it is overhyped. There is literally nothing else newsworthy going on right now. How else are they going to keep retards glued to their station? Nothing like watching the exact same shit on an endless loop every ten minutes.

Estimates are wrong most of the time with hurricanes. The models basically suck. We have had them revise rainfall amounts all day today, low, high, back low and now high again. They only know the amounts when it falls.

For example, they just said" we usually don't see tornadoes this early in these storms, but we just got several tornadoes on radar and a mobile home flipped and a tornado near the main gates on the camp lejune marine base"

It is nature, no program works to tell what it will do , just what is likely.

Wonder if there will be looting in NY, if the storm produces enough chaos? This isn't Japan after all.

Texas = No looting because of gun wielding citizens

New Orleans = No guns & looting

New York City = Zero gun rights, but NYPD has an iron fucking grip on the city. None of that pansy New Orleans police shit goes around here.

We're fine.

Whereas it might be a cat 1, with 50 to 60 mph winds, the taller buildings will see much higher winds the higher up. Likewise, the venturi effect of the wind pushng between the tall buildings will cause much faster winds. Personally, let NY get pushed into the Atlantic. I'll be the first to give them the NY salute! It could really be very dangerous for New Yorkers. I'll be rooting for the Irene.

Yeah, go f*ck yourself too.

So because a comedian cracked couple jokes on NO, it means that all NYC should sink? Let me guess, you're an EMO 14yo who thinks he's tough because he listens to Fallout Boy.

Grow up.

We got 5" a few days ago in about 6 hours of rain. What's another 2"?

NYC and many parts of the northeast are in the range of 300-600% of their normal rainfall in the past month. That, plus the amount of rain you got a couple days ago PLUS another 5-10 inches = you are an ignorant fuck.

Just read NYC needs just .25" of rain to break their all-time August record. Philly has already broken. More rain? No big deal.

OP is a fucking moron. What a stupid thread.

He's either a 13 yo prepube basement fuck who actually took the 'internet mindset' seriously to real life,

OR

Some creepy 40 year old loner angry at the world because he sucks at social life and therefore projecting his self hate.

No guns in New Orleans. That's funny.

this media frenzy is so ridiculous.
This is just going to be a heavy rain with high wind at most. Few knocked trees, signs and cans. Can't believe some new yorkers are lining up hrs at the grocery store to buy food.
My local delivery guys are ready to deliver and make serious money on deliveries. People are going out, drinking, having fun at this hour. Absolutely no parking space in manhattan at this hour. Instead of evacuating, Zone A residents are grabbing a bottle of wine and cheese to enjoy their front row seat.
