I am lvling a be paladin, I am gonna roll retribution when it's at 70.

There is NO game where playing it for a single night is worth a $15 subscription. especially on top of the price to BUY the game. $180/yr to play a game = suck.

There is NO person other than the person spending the money qualified to decide whether or not the entertainment value obtained is worth a $15.00 subscription. People whose business it is not deciding whether or not someone else?s money is well spent = suck.

I'm entitled to my opinion and think people who subscribe to a game are crazy. I'm not telling you how to spend your money. I'm giving you my opinion on games. Get over it and stop being so defensive.

i don't tsee how its much different.

If a computer and TV require a subscription to use then I suppose I owe someone a LOT of money 'cause I haven't paid ONCE. I don't have cable because cable sucks, and having internet access is not only affordable, but it's different because you aren't buying the internet ON TOP OF subscribing to it. Not only that, but the money I make by readily having the internet more than pays for it. To top it off, anyone who is paying for WOW is ALSO paying for the internet, so it's not like you can say paying for the internet is the same thing because there's a lot more that can be done with it and WoW isn't nearly a necessity for the average person.

You're an odd fellow. No wonder you think like that.

He's not odd, sounds like he's just really cheap. I am glad to pay $15/month so I can play an online game without some little whiny noob kids saying pwn this pwn that.
I would start playing CS again if it charges a subscription. Essentially I am sick of playing online games that the game developers do not spend effort to monitor the gameplay.

Don't know if any of you guys played the free ultima online server uogamers. Those admins are completely dicks and just abuses their power.

Another analogy is why do ugly women waste money on makeup when it don't help a bit? They are still ugly, and the makeup just highlights the fact. Why don't they just let those wart hairs grow to fruition and tie them up in a nice bow for free?

Ok, maybe it's not a good analogy, but neither are most of the others. :lips:

Dude that's not even an analogy. You are just trying to come up with something to chastise ugly women, nothing wrong with that though.

then play those and quit whining? no one is forcing you to play the game.
you're paying for a premium service, just like cable.

Just like no one is forcing you to comment on me thinking subscribing to a game is absurd?

I'm welcome to my opinion and you aren't going to change it, so you're better off not wasting your time.

no, but this is a forum, wtf else am i going to do here?

lol. I guess we both kinda lose. 🙁

GEEK FIGHT!

Paying for anything increases your chance for an enjoyable and stress-free experience.

If you have more time than money then the cheap way is the way to go.

It's like Wal*Mart vs Nordstrom.

I'm not the one misunderstanding something. I'm the one that is understand that on top of buying a computer, the game, internet access (and the NIC, if you want to get nitpicky like you have been) then at that point paying for a subscription to the game is absurd. There are plenty of games that don't require subscription for online play.

Name me one game that doesn't require a subscription to play, yet still releases new content, updates, patches, events, etc at the rate Blizzard does. One game that is completely hosted on top-of-the line server hardware located around the world for low-latency connections to a large portion of the globe. One game that has 24-7 in-game support. One game that lets you play simultaneously with thousands of other people in real-time.

If you don't understand the analogy between paying for a MMORPG subscription, and paying for cable/cellphone usage, then you're just being obtuse - either on purpose, or having it just come naturally.

Personally not wanting to pay for a MMORPG is fine, but claiming that the people who do see value in it are "absurd" is just immature. Maybe CounterStrike is more your demographic?

Counter Strike is free, and outside of the in game support everything you mentioned is done more often, and even better in CS 🙂 WOW will never have as much content as CS 1.6 or even CS:S I have played 5 years of CS, never paying for more than the initial game. Best deal ever!

that's like saying if you get a tv, you should get premium cable channels for free.

or if you buy a computer, you should be able to get online for free.

$15 subscription per month is same as buying a new rpg (that you can play only once) every 3-4 months. besides, you can quit anytime and sell your character for more than what you paid for the game.

There are crap loads of games that are free to play once you buy them.

It's more like saying you gotta buy the computer, the internet, the game, THEN the subscription.

The question is, exactly how much time do you have to put in to the game to get a character that anyone would even bother buying?

How many of those games which are free have the developer host servers? Are you playing on a Valve owned 16 man CS:S server? All of those games have little to no maintenance cost for the makers. Meanwhile, for MMORPG's, the company must pay for all the bandwith and servers that people play on, along with keeping live GM support active for players, and a team tweaking gameplay, fixing bugs and adding content patches. It took how long for Blizzard to go from 1.09 to 1.10 in Diablo II, compared to a patch in WoW?

They aren't even in the same league. I've always found the "I already paid for the game, screw subscriptions" mentality absurd. I bet those who think that have never hosted a CS or UT server themselves, and freeloading off of others. There are costs to those games, that some people pay for the rest.

bah! Holy or Prot son! Ret is useless! 😉

Dude, a newly re-spec'd ret pally almost matched my rogue's damage today... I'm the top in my guild night in and night out... and some holy pally newly respec'd almost matched me. W T F.

If you haven't seen ret after 2.3 patch, it's something to behold.

Serious? Not many ret pallies in my guild so I didn't look over any pally changes in 2.3. Good to hear that they're getting their dues...finally. 😉

A ret pally matching a rogue's damage is concerning to me though since I play a rogue as my main. He's pretty much been shelved for my mage since they increased xp for 20-60 so I'm slowly getting her to 70 at the moment. Maybe she'll become my main soon.

I'd be interested in knowing what boss he was fighting when the Paladin almost matched him. We had a ret pally attempt to outdamage us on Morogrim and it was hilarious. 😉
It was heroic sethekk. At first we were neck and neck but toward the end I finally pulled away... but to have a ret pally not even in full epics give me a run... that's just not right.

well, a lot of time, but then again... if you are enjoying it when you're playing, it is worth it, the money you made is just icing on the cake.

i used to be like you, i laughed at people who paid for online games. until i tried it for free, and after calculating fun per night at 50 cents a night, i realized that it is worth it. compare to other entertainment that i pay more money for.

and saying that you have to buy the game and then pay for the subscription no longer is a valid argument, since you can download the game for free from the site and just pay a monthly fee now.

but if you do not enjoy games like this, then this really isn't worth it anyway.

most players only follow what others have posted. Those that post about it, usually don't know the most about it.

Even back in the MUDD days I heard I picked a lame class.

I was on Highlands as a monk...thieves would run the arena with run to safe area to reset hide then backstab and repeat. I had a non-aggressive push ability that allowed me to push any mob/player outside the current spot. So as soon as I got backstabed I would run to the safe area and start pushing 'X player' until it broke his stealth and moved him to the next room....which I would enter and do a quivering palm on his ass.

The thieves complained it upset game balance and my ability was nerfed.

you still have to buy the game to get the key that turns your trial account into a real one. but the game is only 20 now +20 for the expansion.

dunno where you heard that, but even if it is true, the next expansion is atleast a year away. have fun being a gimped lvl60 waiting for the burning crusade expansion to become free. 🙂

You know, if there was a charge associated with how much you played it versus a flat monthly fee, I MIGHT play for a month or two, but sometimes I don't even get a chance to play ANY games for a few weeks at a time. You can associate the cost to 50 cents per night, but at the same time you can say the nights you don't get to play you're throwing money away.

If it's what makes you happy then yeah, more power to you, but I just tend to look at things as an investment and WoW just seems to me to have little to no return value that I can't get cheaper from other methods.

I am L70...maybe the free download was limited for a set amount of time or something.

I pay for 200+ channels, maybe watch 2-4 in any given month, but if I turn on my TV to watch something the channels are there.

😕

Last I checked, you had to fork out $30 for the Burning Crusade expansion.
