you dont have to buy expansions...when the new ones come out they will release them for free after a while.

dunno where you heard that, but even if it is true, the next expansion is atleast a year away. have fun being a gimped lvl60 waiting for the burning crusade expansion to become free. 🙂

I am L70...maybe the free download was limited for a set amount of time or something.

They give you a 10 day trial- you must have power leveled to get to 70 by then 🙂

It was heroic sethekk. At first we were neck and neck but toward the end I finally pulled away... but to have a ret pally not even in full epics give me a run... that's just not right.

Ret paladins are viable high dps with 2.3. The only thing holding them back before was lack of threat reduction, which they now have.

(my armory)

I play this game too much (get the most out of your money, heh).

you'll pay $20 to see ONE movie at a theater, for 2 hours of entertainment, i get a lot more entertainment out of wow for my $15/mo. and i can play it in my boxers, anytime i want, with my friends and talk about things since we've all relocated all over the US. much rather do that than go see a movie in a crappy theater.

I bought the expansion, but it then came up for a free download in my email. Maybe it was just a trial or a special offer.

I do see you have to buy it now. Since I believe you do get one month credit still so it makes the game about free.

😕

Last I checked, you had to fork out $30 for the Burning Crusade expansion.

Or you could just buy the Battlechest for $40, which not only has the game and BC expansion, but the strategy guides as well. It's really a great deal, and is what I went with after being sucked in by the trial edition.

You know, if there was a charge associated with how much you played it versus a flat monthly fee, I MIGHT play for a month or two, but sometimes I don't even get a chance to play ANY games for a few weeks at a time. You can associate the cost to 50 cents per night, but at the same time you can say the nights you don't get to play you're throwing money away.

If it's what makes you happy then yeah, more power to you, but I just tend to look at things as an investment and WoW just seems to me to have little to no return value that I can't get cheaper from other methods.

I pay for 200+ channels, maybe watch 2-4 in any given month, but if I turn on my TV to watch something the channels are there.

Ain't that the truth. I'm about to cancel Dishcrapwork for that very reason. $70 bucks a month to get 196 channels of crap I never watch is pointless. That's why I rent DVDs online. Just like those movie channel subs like HBO are a complete joke. You get the same movie regurgitated all month long on nearly every HBO channel you get. Like no one's got a DVR to get it the first 100 times they show it.

Yea, that's the truth!

Most theaters really have crappy sound systems around me, and the blown speakers really start to annoy me after about a minute. Then I feel obligated to sit there with my feet stuck to the floor and squirm in the uncomfortable seat with holes in it trying to get comfortable, with my elbows stuck to the arm rest for up to 2 hours trying to pretend I'm enjoying myself, all while thinking my HT sounds 1000xs better than what I'm hearing. It's only worth it to see a decent movie in giant screen format, like Lord of the Rings or something. It's like most theaters don't give a crap about sound quality or comfort, at all. 😕

I don't pay for the channels just for movies though, 😕.

WTF?

Too off topic? 😱

that situation you described would be the most ghetto of all ghetto theatres.

I still like movies at home, but our theatres here are pretty nice minus the riff-raff, seats are great, sound it great, screen is usually good (occasionally things are thrown across it), floor is a bit sticky at times as are some of the seats. Still that alone makes watching movies a few months behind so much better. My WAF goes off the chain at even -30ish dB. I do 0dB on my days off 🙂

Well, one of my worst recent multiple experiences was at a Sony multiplex a few years ago, that since closed down. It was so bad they would rope off entire rows of seats that were broken and unusable, and they were too cheap to replace, lol.

Even the screens there were covered in giant stains from people throwing drinks at the screen.

Some of their speakers were so blown, all you would hear was rattles and buzzes for the entire movie, that is if the speakers even remotely worked. I was usually lucky to get 3 1/2 on a 5.1 system there, lol. I never knew what theater there would show what, so it was a real crap shoot going there at all. It was a real dive, but then, what else to expect from Sony studios?

I was a lot happier when they tore it down and a new theater opened nearby, but then I moved, hehe.

damn...we have like a dozen 12+ multiplex to choose from here. Most are pretty good barring the occasional asshat before you and interuptions. Most here now have policies that if you cellphone is noticed during a viewing you are kicked regardless. They replace screens when they are vandalized. In the theatres that suffer this more often they have permanent ushers. IMHO no theatre room should be without one or more ushers.

Its kinda like if you want admin power on a CS sever... you gotta pay $5 /month

which you are getting more fun for being an asshole?

I feel sorry for you. The theaters around us were all rebuilt within the last 4 years and have all the latest technology. They even have "Director's Halls" were the seats are leather recliners with extra wide spacing, they have those "rumblers" built into the seats so you can feel the bass, and they have "waiter" service where a guy will bring anything you order right to you. It's an extra $4...but MAN is it nice. Even their plain theaters are THX certified and fairly luxurious.

I'll take it that subscriptions are starting to slide?

Hardly. They've already passed 9 million, and keep growing. This is the time of year when video game commercials come out of the woodwork, because this is when most games are purchased.
It's my understanding that Blizzard doesn't break out its numbers on a per-market basis any more, but there's a lot of evidence pointing to the vast majority of that growth being in the Asian markets. The Western markets appear to have leveled off, which could very well mean they're about to start declining.

No the Asian markets will keep the at ungodly numbers.

Theyve really skewed what successful means.

Prior to WoW 200k+ was a success because you made money. Now everyone is out to try and duplicate WoWs success by making more of the same old crap.

I agree that it's worth it, but holy crap. Where the hell do you go to the movies?
