EDIT: nvm

Trailer looks good. Doom 4 beta access is a nice bonus.

RTCW was good, but ET is what made the game memorable. Even years and years after the free ET release, you could still find 64 player servers packed with a waiting list to get in.

Almost all modern MP shooters owe their design to ET; afaik it was the first to have accumulated experience over the course of a campaign (3+ maps). With the huge number of players that loved it, it was only natural most shooters that followed had some sort of experience mechanic.

Another thing that made ET great, was the ease of making maps and playing them. You just downloaded user made maps in seconds before the map started, which meant you as a map designer could simply upload your map to your server, and everybody could play it - a design feature sorely lacking in modern shooters (but probably because there would be no need for map pack DLC if thousands of user made maps were out there). I remember playing on a giant pool table, where the balls moved (and you could use them for cover).

Splash Damage (the ET makers) haven't come close to making something that good again, which is a shame. ETQW was fun (on the PC, not the console), and I played with some of the big names from ID in the alpha/beta which was cool.
I disagree vehemently. RTCW was the crown jewel of multiplayer gaming at the time in my opinion. I think it had something to do with the combination of the age of the internet and multiplayer FPS gaming, the popularity of IRC at the time and the raw skill and teamwork required to be good at RTCW... that game was downright unforgiving. I haven't found any game to replace the overall package that was RTCW and its community.

ET was a watered down, gimmicky little cousin of RTCW for those who couldn't hack it in RTCW. I don't know anyone who played RTCW competitively that preferred ET to RTCW; in fact pretty much everyone I know hated ET.

I was in high school at the time, the internet was fairly young as far as multiplayer gaming went so I realize there's a lot of nostalgia for me. That said, I know there will never be another RTCW for me considering my age. I doubt I'll LAN till 5am or anything like that anytime soon.

RTCW mp was a blast...anyone ever use to play on the locked box server???

ah the memories
Fairly certain that was my favorite pub back in the day. I went by stanG. Trying to remember all of the clans I was in... HCC, Minions, and SteeL were the main ones but I was in LBL, Liquid and a few others for short stints if I recall correctly.

In trying to find random RTCW history I stumbled onto this old thread. Guess I had some haters hahahah http://forums.powervs.com/showthread.php?t=24224

This trailer looks fine, but the game play videos I saw previously didn't.

Looks like a cheesy action movie with crappy FPS mechanics.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer - - I just saw zero to get excited about in that "gameplay" trailer (which was 90% cutscenes).

I really hope Cyberpunk 2077 delivers, because I'm really getting tired of the shallow crap the FPS developers have been dishing out lately.

To be fair, the actual gameplay videos are 90% cut scenes...

OK, not 90%, but it seemed intrusive.

I'm not interested in a shooter without multiplayer. I've never completed a single player shooter, including half life

I love single player games. MP is okay if you are into it. The best part about RTCW was that it was a solid single player game first and foremost. I hope the new one is the same in that respect.

Thats what I remember the last time I played wolfenstein. It rare we get a decent single player experience now.

Another new trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd21NGyFz30

It's labeled as a "gameplay" trailer, but really, it doesn't show much gameplay; rather it's an interactive cutscene that helps set the tone of the game.

And, IMO, I think it's very effective. (That's the most authentic German voice acting I've heard in a game since... uhh... well, I mean, it sounds good.) And whoever mentioned Quentin Tarantino is spot on. Seems to have an Inglorious Bastards vibe to it. I'm looking forward to it.

I still play multiplayer Return to Castle Wolfenstein almost daily. The game is so fluid and smooth that everything feels much more immersive. I've play other other multiplayer games such as Battlefield and they don't come close. The actual gameplay, the interaction with other players. Even after 12 or so years after its release, RTCW has one of the best multiplayer experiences in a game.

I haven't done much research on this new Wolfenstein so who knows how its multiplayer (if it will have one) will be.

This one is only singleplayer. I'm hoping the fact that were able to focus on just one game type means they'll actually give us something worth the Wolfenstein nam, and not the bland crap we got with the last one.

Anyone else pre-order? Should be going live tonight. Too bad I won't be able to actually play until tomorrow night at the earliest.

Here is a 50 min dev play through.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LzV6B6oF7c

It almost seems a little too old school, but it looks like you might be able to use some stealth. The dev just runs around blasting, and he never uses the silenced pistol that the game has laying around. I kinda feel like hugging walls looking for secrets, but not dealing with wave after wave of bad guys. Kinda split on this one...
