Anyone else pre-order? Should be going live tonight. Too bad I won't be able to actually play until tomorrow night at the earliest.

Yeah, I pre-ordered from GMG with one of their 25%-off vouchers, and got my keys a couple hours ago. Three keys, to be exact: One for the game itself, one for a free copy of RTCW, and a third key which I presume is for the Doom 4 beta.

Pre-loading is also available, the download size is a hefty 40GB. Will take me a few hours on my modest 16mb connection. I'll play for a few hours tonight and let you guys know how I like it.

Good to know. I got it from GMG, as well, but with only a 20% off coupon :(

edit: just checked my GMG account and codes are there. Will be downloading tonight!

There was no Robots in RTCW,
Its one of the best games in the world backthen !!

What a great memories...
ET wasnt as good at ALL...

And this one will fail. seems its going to be the same as modern FPS games as i predict.

There were ghosts and cyborgs and the boss was a giant demon thing.

Game-breaking, for me.

The first 4/5 of RTCW is amazing, though!

The Sims 3 and all 700 of their expansions? :D

Don't forget the it also has a 7GB+ patch supposedly that needs to be DLed and applied after DLing the game itself. This thing is rumored to take up 50GB of space once its fully installed on your hdd.

I used a VPN to unlock the game early, and I've been playing it for the past few hours. I'm glad to say that it's just as badass as I was expecting it to be (not that I was terribly worried; I gathered enough information from the previews and trailers to know that it was my kind of game).

One thing that surprises me is how much it accommodates stealth gameplay. There seem to be entire levels that you can sneak your way through. On the other hand, I guess all of the previous Wolfenstein games have had stealth to some extent or another. Personally I didn't buy the game to sneak around though. I bought it to blast nazis in the face and turn them into red mist with dual-wielding machine guns, and there is plenty of that here. I suppose it's nice to have the option. Sneaking can be a nice change of pace and the game gives you plenty of opportunities to go quiet.

Technically it's a very nice-looking game. Wolfenstein complements the idTech 5 engine much better than 2011's RAGE, IMO. Runs mostly at 60fps on the High preset at 1080p on my 7870, except for some larger outdoor areas where it drops down a bit. The texture pop-in bug from RAGE still exists a tiny bit (and it probably always will), but it's minor enough that you'll usually never notice, if it manifests itself at all.

Also, the soundtrack is legit. When I first booted up the game I spent a minute just sitting in the menu and banging my head to the music.

The Day 0 patch is irrelevant to people acquiring the game digitally. It's already part of the Steam pre-load and you won't need to download anything extra.

Huh? Stripping unessential multiplayer from the game should allow them to focus on the single player and make a better game.

I'm sick of MP being tacked onto games where it clearly has no place. ME3, TR2013, etc.
"unessential" ?

sorry bro but SP has always been an excuse to play MP.
since, like, quake 1.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. At 82% downloaded already. Can't wait until tonight to play, though, I'm trying to un-convince myself to take off from work.

Haha, same here. I watched a bit of TotalBiscuit's review this morning before I left for work and was really tempted to 'work from home' today. He had a lot of good things to say about it.

Anywhere to get it for under $60? I refuse to pay this much for a damn game. $40 is my limit and if I have to wait a couple months for sales so be it...

GMG had it around $40 with discount code. Not sure if there current discount codes will apply to the game. In about a month or so, I suspect they will.

I'm going to wait until Best Buy has its GCU sale. They're supposed to give you the 2-year membership for $60 next week, and you get 20% off new games. I figure I'll spend $60, then have $25 right away, if I pick up Wolfenstein and Watch Dogs.

So its capped to 60hz, has serious performance problems on multiple cards, lots of texture pop in just like Rage and its a bit buggy. It very much looks like a poor console port, which is what quite a lot of reviews are kind of suggesting.

Yeah, looks like some folks are having issues with graphics and timing between audio and video. However, for those that are able to play, and it looks like it's a majority, they are giving the game very high marks related to gameplay, story, atmosphere, pacing, etc. Game looks to be very good if you can get it to run.

Admittedly I only looked at 3 reviews but they were far from positive and the metacritic results for users were very mixed. TotalBiscuit has a go about the options and badly merged settings and issues with performance and controls and such. Then he basically just calls the game silly. Eurogamer gave it a 6/10 for a story that often misses the mark. Metacritic for players was averaging 6/10 as well, a lot of people unhappy with the gameplay, story and issues with the initial game.

I wouldn't say the game looks good, it looks like its below average and technically its suffering from consolitis.

I'm not going to get to arguing, or maybe I will :), but Metacritic user average is 7.5/10. This was on 100 votes.

I read the complaints on Steam, and most of them related to graphical or graphics/audio timing. Otherwise, I read quite a few reviews that liked the story and gameplay, the ability to be either stealthy or go full-bore.

Interesting. Arguably the only "low" reviews I have seen for this game are from Joystiq (3/5) and Eurogamer (6/10). Literally every other review outlet I've read so far - Game Informer, Gamespot, PC World, Polygon - have given it at least an 8/10 (or equivalent).

Checking the Metacritic page right now, the critic rating sits at 79 while the user rating is currently 76.

Not that you should put much stock into arbitrary numbers (I'm an advocate of getting rid of the whole assigning numbers to assess value thing); you should certainly read the actual reviews to get an idea of how good the game is. Most of the opinions I've read online seem to paint the game in a very positive light, but I guess it depends on what communities you frequent. The /r/games subreddit seems to be receiving the game really well right now.

Also - did we watch the same TB video? He mentioned a few technical issues, but if you watch it til the end, his overall impression of the game was fairly positive, and he praised the game for bringing back old-school style run'n'gun shooters (and doing a very good job at it). When he called the game "silly", I'm pretty sure he meant it in a good way. The silliness constitutes a big chunk of the game's appeal.

Just preordered... holy crap, 40GB.

I can't think of a game with a bigger download.

Titanfall came in at about 50GB, mostly due to ridiculously large sound files. Battlefield 4 was also large. We PC gamers are always talking about how nice it is to have high resolution textures and high bitrate sound...the downside is that storage requirements are going up. :)

Of course Metro Last Light was only 10GB and it looks friggin fantastic when maxed out. Same can be said for Crysis 3.

Both of those titles are much smaller in file size that Wolfenstein. I guess it just depends on how the gaming engine is designed and how effiecient the designers really want to be.

Titanfall's install size is 50GB, but the actual compressed download size is only ~24GB IIRC. The thing about Wolfenstein is that the install size is 45GB, and you're actually forced to download the overwhelming majority of it (40GB).

idTech 5 games will probably always fall victim to huge filesizes because of the megatextures.

And sadly there doesn't really seem to be any benefit to it, either.

Not in Wolfenstein, anyway. The way I understand it, the benefit of megatexturing is that it allows artists more creative freedom to make unique and nuanced video game environments with less repetition and more variety. RAGE, as mediocre as it was, used that freedom pretty well IMO. Better than Wolfenstein.

That's not to say Wolfenstein is a bad looking game, because it's certainly not... I think it looks great. Rather, I just don't see how it facilitates the need for megatextures. But then again I'm not one of the developers behind the game and I don't really know any of the details.
