I think I'll stick with 333*9 for a nice even 3GHz w/ a 5:6 FSB:RAM Divider.
If anything, to reduce the strain on my SPP/NB, i could pin-mod the Q6600 to run on the 1333 strap to be similar in performance to a QX6850 minus the unlocked upwards multiplier.

EDIT:: It'll be similar to my current OC, my E6400 running at 333*8 for a very low 2.66GHz (I think I killed my chip. It is no longer stable at 3.2GHz like it used to be.)

id think board more then chip.

I just toasted my 680i this monday. I think it was because i was pushing the board too hard @ 3.6 on a quadcore. EVGA was nice enough to take the RMA.

RMA should arrive soon, the chip is still great, tested it on my P35 with no issues.

Maybe I should get an X38 when it comes out. I love the tweakability of the 680i for RAM, but it's just not a good overclocker.

im just crossing my fingers that it will support sli.

Thats the only reason why my P35-DS3P isnt in my main rig right now.

*hopes nVIDIA will be nice to Intel and share the wealth (aka Scalable Link Interface Technology so he will have a good overclocking board with SLI* 😛

well, maybe the EK's will be out by the time i buy the stuff. (as i said, if i don't buy it now, i'll spend the money, and I DID. i got a second 7950GT on eBAY for $180.).

I'll bet you outbid me!!!!

turkey.

That's ok, I got one of the others for $164 + s/h so it all worked out. I had to go to nvidia archives to get the 93.71 driver as the site directed me to another but with coolbits it is running happy at 600/1500

turkey.

Did someone really feel the need to rate my thread 1 star?

Anyways, I get my Q6600 on Monday. Get my 680i-A1 on Wednesday or Thursday. Have it all together by Friday.

Maybe I'll be able to get this loop soon:

MCR320 $55
MCP655 $80
D-Tek FuZion $65
EK Res-150 $40

That's only $240+S&H.

The TR Ultra120 doesn't perform too badly at stock. Idles around 40C on all cores and Prime95 Load around 56C.
That gives me some overclocking headroom b/c the Thermal Junction is 100C, so I could theoretically push it until another 20C at load.
Time to do some tweaking (on a really bad 680i-AR board with TONS of FSB holes)

Just for giggles I just rated this thread a 5 and now you have 2 stars,
Happy??🙂
I don't know but the rating prob has to do w/ a percentage and the number of posts.
one 5* rating + 1 post = 5*
one 5* rating + 5posts = 1*

thanks. haha. i was being sarcastic. I don't care what others think of this thread. from now on, I'll put sarcastic remarks in Italics.

Yeah, If only I didn't have the stupid eVGA 680i-AR.

I have it @ 293*9. Windows won't boot past 300FSB and the system won't post past 333FSB.
It's nice though. I'm able to run all of my programs at once without any slow/non-responsive windows (Photoshop, Mozilla Firefox with 50+ tabs open, music encoding, music playing, and more. I don't really stick to one task that well. 😉 )

PCTC2 you're such a whore... i want your case sooo badly... but it would cost me sooo much to get it to Canada

Yeah, I'm doing their Upgrade to Quad 680i-A1 RMA right now. I should have the new board in 2-3 days.

watch out, the second board you get doesnt have EAR.

So if it goes bad, you will need to submit your board first to get a replacement.

I found out the hard way.

that didn't happen to me so it must be luck of the draw in that respect. but it still's a pita tearing it down because they sent another crappy board.
