Right, i dont normally do this but i need an AGP card from 80~150 +/- 20 dollars to power my old AGP machine.

Specs
P4 3.0ghz northwood
2x512mb DDR400 (samsung)
Asus P4P800 deluxe
Suma FX5700 128mb (i want to get rid of this)
120gb hard drive (7200rpm)
Seasonic 350W(15A on 12V rail) this came with the gaming bomb case by chenbro i bought 4 years ago.

I will be pairing this with the dell 2007FP til i get a new PC. Sounds pretty funny but im getting the monitor first. :)

Anyway what are the best bang per buck deals for 80~150 dollar AGP cards? Experts i need your advice!

I will mostly surf the web, watch movies quite abit and play games occasionally. Im not really into games like some of you (no offence intended :D) however will play quite a few games of warcraft3. I need something also to play older games like doom3/Dawn of War i have at an aaceptable level. (meaning 16x12 no aa/af at 40~60 fps)

But thinknig about it, i played doom3 with the FX5700 with everything on, 2xAA and 800x600 at medium settings. I thought it was playable but i benched that setting and got 23fps! i guess im not FPS sensitive..

Thanks in advance!

any chance of buying a PCI-E mobo? a cheap PCI-E mobo will let you get ~7600GT for a total of $150, rather than buying a gimped $150 AGP card.

If you still need it after new years I'll sell you my (almost) brand new x1650pro 512meg. I'm going to get the x1950.

I have used it less than a month.

I have pretty much the same system. I bought an x850Pro in that price range a couple of months ago as an upgrade to my 9700Pro. I hated it until recently, had a lot of grain in DVD viewing I eventually compensated/upgraded away. The most advanced game I run is HOMMV at 1920x1080 with some bells/whistles. We really are coming to the upgrade limit on these units, I don't think they'll last much longer than a year. I don't mind so much cause I know I have a few friends that would love to buy it when I do upgrade. I'm also more geared to multimedia than gaming, and if I had it to do over again I'd probably go with a 7600 like this:

On the same boat as i am. The only reason im looking for a cheap AGP card (but still decent to a degree) is because i know that there are so many limiting factors when upgrading the old PCs.

Im thinking the 7 series or X1k series because they provide pure video/AVIVO to enchance quality for multimdeia stuff.

512mb would be pointless because im not getting Vista for the old PC. The requirements for Vista are ridicilous especially for office 2007.
More inputs are welcome.

I still use a 6800GT AGP. It was the best bang for the buck when I bought it last year and it performs great. With it I got a lifetime warranty from eVGA.

A used 6800 Ultra or GT for +/- $120 is your best bet.

If you can live with a bit less performance, you should be able to get a 6600GT for about $60, or a Radeon 9800 Pro for $40.

Not sure exactly how much the power requirements differ between a 6800 vanilla and a 6800 GT, but my Antec Smartpower 350W had no trouble at all when I had a 6800 vanilla installed.

Whats the amps on the 12V rail?

Do you mean Seasonic?

If so you should be fine... I was going to say that with a quality 350 watt psu you would be ok as long as you don't have too much other stuff installed.

I'm in the same boat as you, OP, and it seems ebay prices are around $60-$80 for the 6600GT, $80-$130 for the 6800, $130ish for the 7600GS, plus shipping.
I think I'll get a 6600GT or maybe try for 6800GT.

Though I don't understand why this chart at toms hardware says the 6600GT has a 500Mhz core and the 6800GT only has a 350Mhz core?
