And the "Cal is crap" posters are already out swinging. Cal easilly won against a CURRENTLY top 25 team (the only team that can claim that so far this year). Cal was never behind in that game and won by 14.

Hypothetically, if Cal destroyed USC, LSU, Florida, and all the other top teams, Cal haters will still claim that Cal shouldn't be in the top 25.

Cal will stay undefeated until 10/20. That's when they head out to Pasadena and watch 2005 repeat itself all over again--two undefeated teams facing each other with the loser's season quickly spiraling downward after that.

Tennessee needs to win some games to prove they're a top 25 team. Right now its all speculation, just like it was speculation that Michigan was #5 until they lost to App St. and now are out of the top 25.

Now you'll have every right to boast about this win if Tennessee goes the rest of the season undefeated and trounces just about everyone they play, otherwise we can't be so sure how awesome that win is at this moment...

I say Michigan wins 8.

i would say michigan wins 9/10

I dunno. The spread offense gave Michigan's defense last season and it looks like nothing has changed based off the first game this season. Will be interesting to see what happens when Michigan plays a Div 1A school that runs the spread offense...oh wait, that's what is happening this weekend! ;)

I wonder if Le Smiles would leave LSU to take that job.
UM is his alma mater...

yeh, I agree, but the errors I saw in the game against app state looked like mental errors, having 2 field goals blocked in 1 game is highly unlikely, everything that could go wrong for Michigan went wrong in that game

Michigan has never been good against running QBs, and horrendous against the option. Loosing 4 of their defensive starters to the first 2 rounds of the draft last year didn't help much either. Oregon looked like the potential upset on their out of conference schedule before last week. Michigan is in trouble this week unless they open up their offense and can put a ton of points on the board.

And his word is his bond. Just ask LSU and the Miami Dolphins.

The AP poll will now allow voters to vote for 1-AA teams, so look for Appalachian state next week.

Awesome. For the most part its symbolic and won't have much of an affect, but very deserving for the mountaineers to have a shot at the rankings.

Definitely symbolic since App St won't be playing another Div 1-A program this season. I don't know how anyone could keep them in the top 25 because of that.

Once again, the media decides that App State did not win the game, rather Michigan lost it. What an insult to App State.

App. State played a great game, but UM should have won. OSU was playing Youngstown State (a team that has historically been roughly on-par with App. State and a team that had a lot to prove against OSU's current head coach who used to coach at Youngstown State), and still blew YSU out of the water.

YSU is not that much worse than App. State and if it really was a case of App. State being that good, then OSU would have had a much more difficult time with Youngstown State.

App. State played a great game, but the game was UM's to lose. UM was supposed to contend for a I-A National Championship. There is no way that a I-AA school should be able to beat the #5 I-A school. Simply no way. And it's completely right that UM fall significantly from their previous ranking.

ZV

App State beat YSU 49-21 last year, and having followed the game, it wasn't even that close. I'm sorry, but YSU is that much worse than ASU. The fact is that YSU is not the power they were under Tressel in the 90s.

Now, that in no way excuses Michigan from losing to them, but that's another story...

Let's see if Michigan will have the ballz to schedule a rematch at the beginning of next season.

I believe it is time to edit my own statement. Fixed. I needed to update the numbers and get rid of the asterisk.

That said, this kills App. St.'s chance of being considered a great upset. I hope we don't hear about this for decades about being an upset, when in reality App. St. just beat a severely overranked team.

They need to stop having pre-season polls.

App St got 19 votes in this week's poll.

texas consolidated at 6th after wisconsin's poor showing at UNLV.

i honestly don't know how to rank the top 5. they all look really really good. at the moment it appears there is a definite dropoff between the group of usc, wv, floriduh, ou (still sucks), and lsu, and the next tier. texas has started really slowly and has a lot of underclassmen on the 2 deep chart (youngest team mack brown has coached at texas so far). wisconsin was not impressive at UNLV. Cal didn't exactly impress against Colorado State. louisville looks like anyone can score on them.

although, USC has only played one game, so maybe it's a little premature to put them in with wv, floriduh, ou, and lsu.

in other news, the polls are still irrational. No. 7 beats No. 19 at home, so you decide that No. 19 wasn't an accurate position for that team and drop them out of the poll. that doesn't make much sense. i suppose most people feel undefeated teams have to be above teams with a loss merely for that fact.

Michigan's performance this past weekend was hilarious, if nothing else.
