That makes them better opponents than 8 of the other 9 top 10 teams played (USC, LSU, West Virginia, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and Louisville, and arguably better then Wisconsin's opponent WSU).

Doesn't make it any better.

And in LSU's case, they played an in-conference opponent on the road. Nothing they could do about the scheduling in that case. And they'll most definitely make up for it this week by playing VT out of conference.

Exactly. People under-rate the AA teams all the time. Those teams are far better than people think. The best A team will blow away the worst A team. But so will the best AA team. I often think that people feel the worst A team will still beat the best AA team. That isn't the case.

Michigan losing to App. State is very similar to Michigan losing to Michigan State. Sure it doesn't happen all the time, but it isn't that much of a stretch to imagine it happening. Michigan has now lost 3 in a row (heck they nearly lost to Ball State last year, so they could have lost 4 of the last 5 games). Michigan just isn't that good at the moment*.

* Yes, I know they aren't the exact same team as last year, but much of the team is the same.

Did they seriously pay to play them first?

Of course, when I was at UNT UT paid us $1 mill, someone else $500k, and someone else $100k to play them at home (sorry I can't remember the last 2, other big name schools from the southwest). Then the football team wiped the floor with it's conference opponents, won the sunbelt conference, and went to the New Orleans bowl. I mean, why wouldn't you? Yes it's embarrasing but still that's a lot of money.

Once again, the media decides that App State did not win the game, rather Michigan lost it. What an insult to App State.

no clue.

i found that this morning. thought it was fucking funny.

Yup..that's how it works.

Big school pays little school lots of money to play them.

Small school gets money and loads of national attention, big school gets real life practicing dummies (in theory).

nice! glad to see they dropped out. I expected they'd end up around 20 with all the suck ups...

A little annoyed that despite leading auburn at home until 2 minutes were left in the game that Kansas State lost all 8 votes we had a week ago, and yet Auburn moves up 5 spots.

Auburn only moved up 1 spot (from 14 to 13).

ah yes, I had the polls confused.

UF is killing themselves with their strength of schedule. Last week Western Kentucky and this week Troy. I guess they can't play a whole season of tune up games since they have to play some SEC teams.

WHAAAA? Who were these coaches?

Lloyd Carr.

My guess would be all the big 10 coaches, and the coaches of all the other teams that michigan is playing.

We are getting screwed at penn state this year. Michigan and Notre Dame were supposed to be some of our good games, but now even if we win those it doesnt mean anything.

Yep. Even with an undefeated season, a national championship is a long, long shot. (not making any predictions, I'm just saying our schedule is awful) After thinking about the Mich/App St game, I wish Michigan would have won, I can understand how excited PSU fans were when Mich lost (and they were), it actually hurts us that they did.

App. State played a great game, but UM should have won. OSU was playing Youngstown State (a team that has historically been roughly on-par with App. State and a team that had a lot to prove against OSU's current head coach who used to coach at Youngstown State), and still blew YSU out of the water.

YSU is not that much worse than App. State and if it really was a case of App. State being that good, then OSU would have had a much more difficult time with Youngstown State.

App. State played a great game, but the game was UM's to lose. UM was supposed to contend for a I-A National Championship. There is no way that a I-AA school should be able to beat the #5 I-A school. Simply no way. And it's completely right that UM fall significantly from their previous ranking.

I agree. I watched that game and was hoping for the Auburn loss, but man, how can they possibly move UP after barely beating Kans St?

Woohoo!

Hail to those masterbaters, hail to those fornicators... hail hail to the bastards of the west who can't even beat a D1-AA team.

Good riddance!

Heres to a battle of the 0-2s when Notre Lame visits the city that is a whore, Ann Arbor.

If Appalachian State and Michigan played 10 more games, how many do you think each team would win?

I say Michigan wins 8.

But last year (according to Sagarin) Appalachian State was 14 points a game better then Arkansas State. Therefore, Texas would have lost by 6 points had they played Appalachian State.

Both teams got punished, but Michigan got punished much worse, and probably undeservedly so.

LSU probably played the best against the best of the weak opponents. They have my vote for #1 right now.
