"This thing is something we've never seen before..."

Why do John and his wife seem surprised to see a terminator with a skin cover? Afterall, they interacted with even more advanced models before Judgement Day (make that three models for John). John in particular should be quite familiar with the T-800 series.

Presumably it is that the terminator has never been able to act human. This new one presumably has a cloned brain or something like that. My guess it goes something like: some random guy gets injured, everyone says holy ****, then statement from John above.

I think what they are referring to here are Terminators who actually believe they are human. In this way they are truly able to assimilate and eradicate the human race.

I'm betting Marcus is from the future.

Could be. I just hope it does not get a little too Cylon-ish

My vote goes for the future, too. In fact, I don't see how anyone could vote otherwise.

I'll bet Marcus is an advanced Infiltrator that will gain trust, possibly even work through the ranks of the resistance, then one day *snap* his Skynet programming kicks in and he takes out high ranking resistance leaders. The movie will probably come down to John deciding to trust Marcus knowing that he can snap at any minute and can Marcus, being a "human in a machine," overcome this programming since he is sentient?

I had read somewhere else, but wanted to confirm with you guys:

This isn't a stand alone movie, but rather the start of a new trilogy, right?

Hard to say. The Sarah Connor Chronicles is most likely coming to an end, and the TV series, along with T3 and Term: Salv sort of take place in a parallel timeline/universe. It's starting to get very confusing...

Most hot properties are optioned with sequels attached, but the development of a sequel depends largely on how well it does at the box office.

Terminator Salvation looks amazing, but there are a couple of things to consider. The franchise itself has always done amazingly well overseas on the back of Arnold's fame. Without Arnold as the figurehead, will the Terminator name alone be enough to draw overseas audiences?

Something that could help it would be a PG-13 rating. An R rating can cut a movie's domestic box office total by 30% or more. While I don't think Salvation will be a runaway success, if it pulls in $200 million domestic (like Batman Begins), that would be enough to reboot the franchise.

They make a reference to this in the Sarah Conner Chronicles. The machines are grown as babies and I believe they said grow up as a human for 4 years. Not sure if the writers/producers of the tv show are working with the movie guys but this could explain it. Machines that believe they are human.....

McG is listed... where do you get Michael Bay? Besides, even if you know how effects are done and what to expect, it doesn't make it any less entertaining - I know exactly what you're talking about (Transformers, The Island, Armageddon, Bad Boys) but I think it visually adds to the drama of the action scenes... everybody has their style which is what makes it their work - applies to anything creative you do - and it doesn't seem to make the movie worse.

The Austrian accent is not a glitch. It's a feature.

Please name a single movie Michael Bay has done that couldn't be done WAY better by another, less retarded director. Special effects and good writing and implementation shouldn't be mutually exclusive, and if something had to take a back seat it better be the special effects.

^ that's a subjective question if I've ever seen one... who are we thinking here? John Woo? Like I said, they all have their styles... if you're into slo-mo, etc... How about some Matrix brothers action? What if it were done in a Dark Knight tone? It'd all be cliche'd then too.

In all honesty, I think we're being a little elitist with this nitpicking. "I hate this movie because he over-saturates the picture and I called it from the start". They are more or less popcorn flicks but here come the art critics.

It's got a 300 feel to it

You take that back! This movie looks to be great!

Which is good, as they owe us all for making that last one. *shudder* What a POS that movie was.

In case I didn't come across as clearly as I meant to, my biggest gripe with Bay and his ilk is that *THEY MAKE DUMB MOVIES*

I just saw this trailer with Watchmen last night and I was very pleasantly surprised! With only changing 10-15% of the trailer, they exposed a whole new storyline and the human conflict actually makes me excited to see the movie instead of just "I'll see it because it's a Terminator film."

That was a great new trailer.

From T2, "they have a switch". You only get to see this if you watch one of the extended editions of T2 though. They cut all this stuff out of hte theatrical release which ultimately saved many many minutes. having seen the whole T2 directors cut (or whatever it is called) I have to say that the theatrical release deleted alot of scenes that were rightfully cut.
