Hi all...

Built a new system recently and it seems to be totally stable but my cpu temps seem a bit high. I was wondering if it's ok to leave it as is or should I increase the cooling. Here's the setup:

Case: Antec SLK3700-BQE
PS: ENERMAX Noisetaker 470W "EG475AX-VE-SFMA"
CPU: AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64 FX-53
HS: Thermalright Copper Heatsink "SLK948U"
FAN: AcoustiFan? AF92CT
Mem: CORSAIR 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 TWINX1024-3200XL
MB: ASUS "A8V Deluxe Wi-Fi" K8T800 Pro
GC: Geforce 5900
SC: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2
2 WD EIDE drives
1 DVD-ROM
1 DVD+/- R

Temps:
CPU 55 idle, 62 apps, up to 68 when hardcore gaming
MB seems to stay around 32-34

Like I said everything seems fine and I've had no crashes but these seem a little high. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Those do seem high, but it can be hard to know if your temp readings are accurate. Does your Mobo have an updated BIOS that perhaps corrects the readings? The most basic rule is that if it's stable, it's fine. But I know that can be hard to accept when your temps are being reported so high.

I have the latest BIOS for the MB, everything does seem fine, but those temps seem too high to me...not sure though.

I have the same motherboard with a A64 3500 & stock HSF. Mine idles at 32C and hits around 55C @ load. My MB temp is usually around 27C. That is using Cool'n'Quiet. If I leave that disabled my idle jumps to around 48C

Yeah it's like I'm off by around 15-20C, which I have heard might be an issue with the new chips...not sure though.

Does everything run ok? I came across some very interesting information from over at

http://www.silentpcreview.com ...

"...
30-40C is way to cold. (You can defenatly get less noise for free by turning down your fans.)
40-50C is ok. In many cases lowering your fans more does not give substantial noise gains.
50-60C This is perfect. CPU is doing fine, and your noise should be low as well.
60-70C CPU is fine, but if you run this temp for a long while the smell in the room becomes slightly strange. If this occurs you could turn up fan speeds slightly.
70-80C This is pushing the limit. You should expereince strange smell in the room. You are dangrously close to levels where your computer may crash due to high temps. I strongly suggest that you turn up fan speeds slightly.
80-90C Defenatly too hot. I think everyone at SPCR agrees to this. More cooling is needed.
..."

Maybe, I am ok after all?
